I think the best option, and easiest to enforce would be to allow exploitation but you have to be at or under $100m by opening day each season. If you're over, you lose draft picks, release players, have to go to dinner and a chick flick with Pat or some other heinous penalty.

This way you only need to check people's cap situation once a season and it allows teams to operate around the annoying "feature" in OOTP that automatically factors non guaranteed arbitration money into future year expenses.

Either that, or scrap the cap altogether.

Get rid of the cap, unless there are consequences other than reducing parity.

For teams other than Virginia, Baltimore and Washington, this exploit also let's teams spend beyond their budgets. It's not as useful for us though because if you spend beyond your budget you will obviously go into debt.

I like the losing draft pick option. Could we tier it? If you’re <$2.5mil over, lose a 2nd (or 3rd or whatever) if you are >$2.5mil, you lose a 1st (or 2nd or whatever)? $$ amt could be discussed.

Get below the cap by opening day.

              Consequences:

Sim #1- 3rd rounder loss, 1 million fine
Sim #2- 1st rounder loss, players released at commishes discrection in order to the team under the cap.

It has to be that harsh.

Need a cap or else salaries will spiral out of control and thought it was for competitive blance?????

Its not hard to keep ur team under the cap. I'm sure we can vote to adjust the cap each year if needed based on health of the league.

Unless there was a way for poor teams to hoard money outside of the game in some sort of utility . . .

As always, I'll go with whatever option benefits the league the most.

Worst part of this issue is the inevitable "told you so" post from Jistic.

Ummm, speak for yourself. I'm for parity. If you scrap the cap, I propose bottom market teams have the first chance to acquire open teams with a larger (or smaller if you're a sadist) budget.

I think we should let things go until after the season and see what the financial landscape is at that point. I'm hoping we find that there is much greater parity in terms of budgets.

I think we need to look at making any team who has voluntarily gone over the cap in a future year find a way to reduce that future payroll commitment by the time that season begins. We put the cap in place for a reason and IMO we need to give it a chance to impact the league before we decide to scrap it ½ way through the first season of its existence.

The loophole is fine, it gives the GM of any team the flexibility to operate his team the way he wants, but we all know the $100mil cap is in place so we all have to make those future decisions based on that number. If signing a player now puts you over in a future year you are making the conscious choice to rectify that situation by removing other pieces from your team.

BTW- I am for the cap, but you do realize Maine is NOT a big market team. 51.4 ml media contract from what I see. But since he's won so many championships he has an awesome fan base and owner is giving him alot more resources.
