Some DL thoughts about whatever I feel like talking about regarding every team. I'm trying to do better by following everyone.
Toronto -
I absolutely love that Brendan Watts has worked out so far for Toronto. That was a big money risk for a team that needed to use their money wisely and it obviously worked out last season. 1 complete game already in Watts' first start.
Pittsburgh -
I remember when Marcus was drafted as a potential big power bat. Kind of lefty I'd like in Denver except for the eh defense. It's been a bit slow for Marcus, but I'm following.
Wilmington -
I have a vested interest in McCrory and long-time Denver pitcher Pat Steffen. I'm intrigued by Steffen being placed in the rotation though I realize Matt likely had more to do with that than our new GM. I would advise Steffen stick to the bullpen. He's been crazy effective there and it's much too late to teach that dog a new trick.
Pawtucket -
Remember when funclown ruined Mongo Brooks? I've been watching the guy a lot since and he settled a bit last year but I worry that Brooks is more who he's been recently than anything else. A 2.5 WAR pitcher isn't too bad if you're rebuilding which I guess Pawtucket is doing?
Syracuse -
There are a couple guys I'm very interested in. Dave Webber is one. Oscar Sanchez (former Patriot) is another. But it's actually another former Patriot I'm most interested in: Fred Kimble. I often wonder if Pawtucket's pitchers are a lot like the old Virginia guys. Can't over value their production because of team success. Kimble always scared me because of that.
Hartford -
I'll be honest, I have no idea who Enrique Ortiz is. But I want to know more about him because he looks ready to take the next step. What a nice 2020 start for him.
Maine -
I know Z is excited to see Sliney start off so well. He's always showed magic in the post-season but had not put it together in the regular season. Maybe this is the year?
Indianapolis -
I've been impressed with how quickly JJ has molded this squad into his own without taking from it its potential to succeed. The trade for Monks was such a great stealthy one late into Spring Training. I always liked Monks and he's a good fit for that team.
New Orleans -
I really hope this isn't the beginning of the end of Wade Brown. He maybe should not have been the first overall pick, but he's done a nice job in New Orleans. Last year was rough after a 2018 injury. Was hoping he would have shaken the rust off by now.
Dallas -
Ian Moore reminds me of CJ Wilkinson. Guys you'd like to see hit better but they are so damn good defensively, you almost don't mind. I really wonder if Moore will get paid or if Dallas will let him walk.
California -
I follow Travis Gerlach because when he was a free agent, I had the money to sign him and didn't want to fork over the $10 MM a season to do so. So I spread that money over Steffen and Bell. Watching Gerlach pitch so well has convinced me you gotta spend the money for an elite reliever (I did for Manning and it was worth it). So I won't ever again let a closer go that easily because of money. The best ones are worth it.
Kansas City -
Blueprint is here. Everyone should be watching Frizzell.
Los Angeles -
I hate seeing Marco Lona start his decline, but I'm super impressed it took till he was 40 for it to happen. I also love that Jimmy spent money to keep his guy. Lona's performance makes it unlikely he will ever get traded and that's how it should be.
Morgantown -
I don't know if Tom Estes will hit this well all season, but anytime there's a major trade like the one that sent him from Philly to Morgantown for Taylor Thomas, I'm taking a look at how things go.
