  • The 2044 Daily Keg - Week 20

    08/22/2044

The Bulldogs are on a tear as they go 6-0 and run their win streak to nine games. They are now only two games behind the Bats for the Stout lead. On July 1st they were nine games under .500, now they are sitting pretty at 68-58. Other nice weeks were had by New Orleans and New York who each went 5-2. On the other side of life Seattle and Denver went 1-6 while Philly went 1-5.

    Performance of the Week

P Ed Bythewa - In the fourth no-hitter of the season, and second for the Tobs, Bythewa blanked the Bulls and also added 8 K's and only two walks. On the season the 24 year old is 4-10 with a 4.40 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 86 ERA+. The former 2nd round pick from 2037 is already in his fourth season with the Tobs and last season was 6-10 with a 2.93 ERA.

    Prospect of the Week

P Carlos Smith - Recently called up to AAA by Dallas the 23 year old should be making his debut in the BLB next season. The former 1.1 of 2041 has three solid pitches, hits 101 on the radar gun, and is currently the #55 prospect in the league. In his first appearance for Monterrey last week he went seven innings, allowed no runs, struck out seven and walked one. Just another arrow for the Drillers potent quiver.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The Import wildcard race is going to be wild...scratch that the Import playoff race is going to be wild. The only locks it looks like we have are Windy City and Washington, and neither one of them are even a lock to win their respective divisions. From wildcard #1 California to #6 Seattle there is only a six game difference, and only four will be invited to the dance. Phoenix and New York are in the midst of that and currently have the easiest remaining schedules, while Baltimore and California have the hardest. With around 35 games to play it's literally anybodies guess.

    2. As we mentioned before Ed Bythewa's no-hitter was the fourth of the season. The last time the BLB saw four no-hitters in a season was 2027. As we've said for months we seem to be in a hitting slump for the league, as dominant pitchers have the upper hand. Where have all the great sluggers gone?

    3. Syracuse enjoyed the largest RD of the league for months until Montreal just went zooming by. The Exports currently sit at +168 to the Snappers +141. The Exports weren't even double digits until midway though July but since July 1st they are an outstanding +81. Last place belongs to the poor Red Jackets at -245.

    4. In a name we haven't seen in a bit New Orleans slugger Roddy Sierra hit .381 with 5 HR's and 13 RBI's last week, and didn't get Player of the Week. Sierra was the first overall pick of the 2032 draft by Batavia and was one of the biggest sluggers in the game playing for the Red Jackets. He was traded to New Orleans, became a FA, signed with Pawtucket, opted out a few seasons later and is now back with the Voodoo. On the season he's hitting .246 with 17 HR's and 72 RBI's.

    5. California took two extra inning games this week against Seattle and tempers were hot all series. In the August 15th game Kodiaks pitcher Oren Stern beaned three straight Seattle batters in the second inning. First Marco Taylor, then James Messina, and finally Cory Laclair. A bench clearing brawl erupted that stopped the game for almost 20 minutes. In the end Stern and Laclair were both tossed and Stern was given an eight game suspension, one of the longest we've ever seen.
