2027 Regular Season SIM 21 Complete - Next SIM Sunday 7/8
4-2 week for the Bats. We lost 2/3 at Davenport, but we rebounded by sweeping Death Valley in their place. I didn't see that coming at all, but it's a good result for us. Baltimore managed to pick up a game on us, but the division lead is still ok at 5 games. It's also good enough to keep us atop the Power Rankings for the moment.
Highlights of the week:
Geoff Yonke - Still hitting well. .391/.500/.609 on the week. He's taken the IL batting lead as he looks to defending his hitting crown.
Dave Taylor - He was never going to keep up his torrid start to the year, but he's still been pretty good. He hit .400 this week. He's been successful on 32/33 stolen base attempts this year. As a team, we've swiped 108 bases while only being thrown out 15 times, making that a pretty important part of our game.
Dave Payette - A real question mark earlier in the season, he's become a rock in my starting rotation as the #3 pitcher. In 5 August starts, he's gone 4-1 with a 0.70 ERA and had another good outing this week as he picked up a win over DVS. Our other two starters (Pryor, Ray) didn't fare well against the Scorpions, but we managed to outslug them.
The Richmond Rams defended their AAA crown. Back to back championships at that level, hopefully foreshadowing good things for my BLB club as those players have begun to comprise a larger part of the Bats roster. AA Auburn won their first round, but couldn't go further, ending their repeat bid.
5-1 for the Bulldogs but still 5 games back of Washington. It is tough trying to keep up with Washington because all it takes is ONE bad sim (like last week) and you are looking at a WC instead of a division title. They've won 19+ games the last two months. Yep, the IL is a cakewalk.
OF CJ Stripling has had his best sim of the year, going 11/26 for the week with 4 home runs, a double and six RBI. The 2025 IL Stout Slugger has had a "down" year by his standards and I can only hope that the injuries last year haven't shortened his career too much.
Rookie outfielder, Pat James has been a great addition to our team after the departure of OF Dave Sliney by trade. The 21 year old native of Indiana started 4 games this week, with 5 hits in 14 at-bats with 2 of those hits going yard. Defensively, the kid needs to get a bit more experience but I've got high hopes for him to play a big role down the stretch as we chase Washington for that division title.
Former Whaler, SP CJ Thompson has been unreal since joining us in the Sliney trade. He was already playing well, but has stepped up his play to another level in Baltimore going 5-0 with a 0.72 ERA giving up just 3 ER in 37 2/3 IP since coming to Baltimore. We'll probably move back to a 5 man rotation to close out the year to give CJ an extra start or two to end the season.
We've got a lot of AAAA talent in Annapolis (AAA), I'm really looking forward to September call ups this time around. If we don't catch Washington, we can a still have strong showing and get that #1 WC. While nothing is guaranteed, I'm sure everyone would agree that there is a big difference in playing the #3 and #4 wildcard in the IL this year.
You couldn't have simmed two more days so we could have our Sept callups, could you Brad? Selfish. Selfish.
This just in... Montreal has been contracted by the commissioner... On an unrelated note... 12 VD clinics in Montreal have also closed... Strange... Very strange!
GM California Kodiaks 2014 - Present Brewmaster's Cup Champions 2036, 2043
Pawtucket 3-3. Road trip so its the be expected the way we play away from Pawtucket.
Einhorn gone for the year, but hey Yang comes back next week. Getting so use to my starters dropping it really doesn't even affect me anymore. Now was just need roster expansion in order to survive the season.
Still, besides Washington we've been one of the best teams in the 2nd half. Not bad despite the injuries.

#4 WC race has been enjoyable to be a part of but yes, its a dumpster fire of a race this year. My pitching this year has just not materialized which is really disappointing.
Parham injured himself and is out for the next 3 weeks- he may be back for the stretch run but we shall see. Some must win games coming up for us in the next few sims.

Stealing from a quote in FHM2, "Parham recovers just in time for his next injury."
