It continues to astound me about my bullpen...

3rd best starter ERA in the DL, top 5 in all non power offensive categories, and yet we are barely holding on the wild card race due to a bullpen that just implodes daily...

28 losses... Twenty 'fucking' eight... I wonder where we might be in the standings if we were even remotely competent back there...

Oh well, dog fight to the end in the DL.

Leading the DL in bullpen ERA... Landrum with 20+ saves. Forner all-star Arsenault recovering his mojo. Happy to still being competetive... somehow.

Pawtucket 4-2. Swept Dallas , but then lost of two out of three to Cali.

Basically were riding the arms of vets Watts and Reeves in the bullpen. Offense we draw walks and hit homeruns.

Now up 1/2 game on the wildcard. Were actually right were we should be.

We head into September with a 32-10 record since the All Star Break. Unexpected. Somehow we find ourselves 5.5 games up heading into the home stretch.

Dave Webber with Pittsburgh: .413/.489/.840/1.328 with 8 HR and 18 RBI. August Batter of the Month.

He's been an incredible addition to this point. We've gone 16-4 with him in the lineup. At this point, a playoff berth seems more likely than not...although there is a lot of baseball left to play. It would be nice to win the ALE and avoid facing that juggernaut KC right away.

The addition of Honea really deepens our staff. He's been tremendous in his 3 starts with us. With his injury history, and depending on our standing record wise down the stretch, he may get one or two more starts before getting shut down to ensure he makes it to October.

                  Struggling to the close.

Steve Suarez is 20 hits from tying the all-time record.

3-0 @ Baltimore, 1-2 vs. Philly - Now 71-59, +3 in first place in the Wild Card... for now.

Seattle is 20-9 since August 3rd and playing our best baseball of the season. With roster expansion the Pilots will go full 40 again hoping to find even the smallest edge down the stretch. The September schedule is no cake walk (BAT, BAL, PHOx2, WC, DEN) so I'm hopeful we can maintain this lead in the wild card standings.

There will be a few September position battles at CF, RF and RP. In CF, Erik "Hard Times" Spearing will make his BLB debut. Formerly a 7th rounder of the Freedom, Spearing has only one true skill, and that's defense. His OF ratings are 8-8-8 and he's only experienced at CF. I've never had an OF with those types of ratings. In RF, Garrett Bidwell will compete with Pat Webb, Zachary Freund and Gil Mullins. Odds are I platoon the position and two of them make a potential post-season roster. In the pen, CL, SU1, SU2 and MR1 are all locked down but I'd probably bring at least two more arms to the dance.

The most promising news over the last few weeks is SP Chaz Brooks. The 2018 1st round pick and former top 30 prospect has strung together probably his three best starts as a professional giving up just four runs vs. PHO, @BAT, vs. PHI. I was pretty close to giving up on him as a starter but maybe he has finally hit his stride.

Should be a wild stretch run in the IL with eight teams legitimately competing for six spots.

Think the most important point is Pawtucket is no longer on your schedule.

1-5 (ouch) including some really bad losses to Seattle.

I gambled on the rookie stepping up but he isn’t anywhere near ready to pitch as a starter this year. I’ll have to mess with the lineup vs. lefties to see if we can squeeze out a few more runs per.

A big bounceback week sees us go 5-1 on the road, including a sweep of Phoenix. After going 1-5 last week and seeing the division lead fall to 7, this pushes it back to double digits and I'm feeling better about it. Five of our last six losses have come by one-run, so hopefully we'll figure out how to win these close games down the stretch.
