With the third overall pick, California chooses C Ron Hillert from the Brewster Whitecaps of the of the CCBL. My scout loves him and catchers that can hit and field seem to be few and far between.

He looks close to BLB, which should fit nicely with our rebuilding in California.

With the 4th pick in the draft, THE Carolina Tobs select SP Ruben Castillo from Blessed Sacrament. Velocity and work rate are some negatives but great movement and control with 4 different pitches in his arsenal.

I did want to take a batter, but felt this guy can be a top pitcher in the future and couldn't pass it up.

I'm looking to get into the top 10 and willing to give up 1.25 and a 1st in next years draft.

I love this pick. Those were my thoughts exactly. I almost took Castillo, but with three pitchers taken in the first round last year, I went with the catcher.

Maybe it's just my scout this year but his draft list is complete shit. He has players in his top 10 he doesn't even see as future starters while he has impact players listed after 30.

I would highly recommend to teams to venture further down their draft lists.

I have a tool scout and he sees some dam good players within the first 2-3 rounds. Granted not all stars.

What I liked about this draft is there is balance between pitchers and hitters where take away 2014 its one or the other.

People will still overvalue #4-5 starting pitchers of course and draft them too high. Think having 3 ratings points versus 5 screws with the head of a GM.

                            Ah! Okay thank you.

I do hope GMs use more then stuff movement and control when evaluating pitchers.

Of course they should, but lets face each GM levitates to different values. Pitchers for me an example its Stuff & Movement almost equal followed by control. Why movement so high?? Cuz he pitches in Pawtucket and flyball pitchers tend to fare poorly especially the lefties. Control if I see a college kid with an actual of 2 and his POT says 5-6 or 7 I tend to stay clear. This doesn't apply to 20 years and younger players. Very seldom to they reach they reach past 4.

I'll confess stats when dealing with amateurs doesn't exactly impress me much. I don't trust the logic behind how the AI handles the feeder teams so instead I'll watch more for year over year trends.

Attributes????? Umm sort of. Jistic always made fun of me on this topic. Alot of his super team in the 00 decade had low intl, work ethic or flat our druggies. I know Pat is usually high on them. I say maybe by round 5 I look a bit harder at them cuz after round 4 your grasping for anything to make you want to draft the kid.

                              Sorry I'm bored today.

There are particular stats I look for when evaluating amateur pitchers.

I don't use the same stats when looking at minor league numbers. Things change once a guy gets there.
