      Washington is definitely a buyer.

Last off-season the Bats spent roughly $8 on BJ Parker, Bartolome Rodriguez, Romano Gonzalez, Art Casey and Don Leonard. Three out of the five were hits and none were locked up to anything guaranteed beyond a year. Washington also had enough budget room to claim Hector Pagan off waivers and pay him $9 million.

I don't feel like I will acquire anything close to five players this time. There are one or two potential Free-Agents that would really help my squad out for '99 but I really don't think it's in my best interest to reveal who they are.

Buying and selling. Anything that gives up young talent for a 35-year old veteran.

I need to drop some salary. SP Don Davis will probably end up in the deep discount bin, as will C Tyron Abbott and IF Hector Gonzalez. Also toying with the notion of putting IF Alex De Luna on the block. He probably just needs more time to develop, but he pissed me off. If Davis and Abbott go, I'll see if I can buy myself something nice.

Just a re-model. We still won 95 games in what I thought was a down season. I'd like to move some of my SP (Lindsey, possibly RaGo, Hayes, Sanford) and a CL/MR or two to make room for Beniquez and eventually Marco Perez. We're still a pretty young team at the core, but getting younger and cheaper is never a bad thing.

Like to trade Castor's contract and/or Abe Hernandez to make some room and get more permanant (and younger) roleplayers at C, 1B and in the OF.

We'll see what FA brings. Probably do some discount shopping.

We've got a pretty good mix of talented old and young guys, so I'm just going for a remode as well. I haven't looked at these "amazing" internationals yet. I'll do that tonight.

So, you're not trading RJ Curtis to me for next year's 1st round pick and a conditional Rule V pick?
