Waiting means you don't get him this year though. And that's costly. Although I do expect the price would have had to come down by next year.

Franchise wisely, being backed into a corner like this is not fun. Not to mention the 120% exponentially accumulating cap cost.

In the past I've franchised guys to save money but I'm now thinking it's a good idea only if you completely have to. You never know when you might have to tag someone again late in their career, and a prior tag & holdout would likely mean past injustices.

Fun fact though, Mickey Baines was franchised 2 consecutive seasons by Motor City years back and he re-signed with them. I still don't know how that happened.

I try to resign him this year during the off-season, post-draft... But injusticies was on the table...

So the next year I need to pay at least 26 Millions for franchise him... Around of the 12% of the total cap that we will have... Only for one player and a lot creepers like Bynaker, Thomas, Graham, wanting a new big contract I can keep all inside with that monster hit

So that you say maybe the next year I only can grab a 1st and a couple of 3rds cause his fuel would be limited to 2 or 3 years in a very good or good range, in a system that fits him well

That's my point entirely. For Shark this was as good a time as ever. However if I was trading for him I would've waited until next year when he would've likely held out or demanded a trade. But this way you get a known commodity and if I had even one decent receiver I may have traded for him, but I'm a bit out of real contention right now. Stupid injuries and lame draft this year.

I think the deal worked out really well for Shark. He can bundle the firsts for a shot at a high 1st to grab an instant replacement.

To me this season has been tough again. It was obvious my QB luck of last year had ran out. I had nobody else worth trying if our season died by week 8.
If this was another very good QB I probably would have limited it to just one 1st. Andrews is the best rated QB for now. He's gonna drop off gradually but we have the team to carry him even as a 50 rating. His ability to spread the field is key.
Fletcher needs a star to get him the ball. Dixon looks very useful too. We have a few other useful guys too.

I considered the chance of waiting on him, but I didn't want to miss out. Vuong and Dirksen are starting to decline, so this defense may not be around much longer. It just felt like the right time to make a push. Even a wildcard will do this season, and then its down to luck in the playoffs
