Longtime Huntsville Bulldogs Team President Johnny Manziel will take over as GM on a temporary basis as current GM Josh Gordon enters rehab for substance abuse issues, the team announced today. "It was actually in effect a week ago, but we felt the time was right to announce it now," says Manziel.
Manziel stated that the failure to sign a veteran QB was "mostly due to Lake County Xtreme quintupling our bid" while prior to the season, the loss of Alec Fisk was due to "not paying attention on the part of Josh, and that's on me."
"It turns out, Josh has been high for literally three straight years," says Manziel, "and no one was running the team, basically. Our division rivals may have signed him (Fisk) out of spite." Manziel admitted that, he should have noticed Gordon's relapse earlier, but he was dealing with his own substance issues himself throughout that period.
Manziel was asked about new starting quarterback Nolan Leschler. "Yes, it is true," Manziel said, "that we tried to cut him assuming we could sign Sullivan." He went on to state that the rumors that Leschler was informed he was cut but then stopped at the airport and brought back to start opening day with 1 hour notice had also actually occurred. The head coach promised the OC he could choose his QB from among whichever guys we had," Manziel said. "So he went with Nolan. I guess now I know why.
I was very pleased with Nolan's play, stats notwithstanding," says Manziel. "I mean, yes, it is true that he wouldn't have been the winning QB had not Levine had two pick-sixes - and by the way, GREAT JOB CLIFFY! - but the way I see it, their guy made two huge mistakes and our guy didn't. So he is still perfect in the only category that matters : W and L. But even so, despite that we didn't sign Sullivan, its ok, we don't need that mentoring, Nolan has the best QB mentor a guy could want.... me!"
"Johnny wrote some last-minute audible type stuff for me, since he knew we didn't have much time to get ready," says Leschler. "Those were wild. The playbook he made for it has stuff in there called "Just Win, Baby", "Go Deep, Bitches" and one play which had 5 receivers -- but the only actual set route was a deep fade by the X receiver and the rest was marked "Show Some Balls and Wing It". Oh, last but not least, a play that said "Scramble, Bro" and there was no diagram, just a text box with handwritten, I don't need to explain this further, do I?"
Will the Huntsville Bulldogs fulfill Manziel's prediction of 16-0?
