2048 Recap
2048 was the first full off-season for the new ownership group who spent much of their free time trying to address the bloated salary cap issues that haunted them since they purchased the team during the 2047 season. After a brief discussion within the organization about a possible rebuild, the new ownership group shifted gears and advised their new GM to fix the cap problems and put a competitive team on the field for 2048.
With the green light to hold on to key players for 2048 and limited cap space, the team focused much of their effort on addressing their cap, finding role players, and focusing on the draft.
Key additions in 2048 where - Rookie LB Ed McDaniel and Rookie WR Herman Gamble
Despite many returning players the team did not seem to struggle out of the gate going 4-5 into their bye week (week 10)... We are not sure what the coaches did during that bye week, but when the team returned they were not your same Bulldogs. Huntsville finished the regular season with a 5-2 record in their final 7 games (9-7 total) and entered the playoffs as a last seed wild card.
Huntsville was the one of the hottest teams going into the NC playoffs for 2048 and they did not disappoint, going 3-1 and ending there season with a 4 point loss to Port City in the championship game.
So in short a potential rebuild turns into a Division Championship run with a championship game berth. Should be interesting to see what happens in 2049 where the plan is to try to build off of 2048's success.
2049 Off Season
Again faced with a tight salary cap in 2049, Huntsville would have to be very creative during the off-season to address needs but to also stay under budget.
The team jumped out to a quick start by sending G Pearsall to Port City for a 3rd round selection. While this was not an easy player to part with, it was from an area of depth with the fact that C Ardrey moving to G permanently for the 2049 season.
Unfortunately for Huntsville cap issues kept them from adding players, with only 1 player (WR Antonio Ferrell) joining the team in early free agency. But the team was able to add some young depth on the defensive and offensive lines by adding DE Skip Moln from Boston and C Ryan Korey from Hawaii.
But despite the week free agency haul, Huntsville went into the draft with 9 picks (10 originally but 1 was sent to Hawaii for Korey). With all their picks at the end of each round, the Bulldogs knew they needed to find the right players early on. This years draft class includes:
1.31 - Darrin Waerig - CB - Mississippi State

2.31 - Jameson Woolsey - T - Purdue

2.32 - Tyrus Ferrer - WR - Kentucky

3.31 - Al Robinson - QB - Washington State

4.31 - Shaun Givens - WR - Washington State

5.31 - Ivan Huffman - OLB - Georgia Southern

5.32 - Alejandro Caldwell - CB - UCLA

6.31 - Roderick Baxter - CB - Colorado State

7.31 - Jackson Mason - QB - Ohio State

The team is hoping these young players can step in immediately and help the team continue from where they left off in 2048...
