Well this was Ira's 3rd draft and what the outlaws were looking for and what they may have gotten.
Free Agency The Outlaws had a poor signing period during FA. Prior to FA they traded both LDE Bob Miller & SS Andre Mcgregor due to high contract demands and did not want to be strapped for cash. We were out bid on several players we hoped to sign by on avg 3-4 Mill some much more so. In the Bob Miller trade we received WR Toby Carr 55/55 which will probley be starting for us. We was able to sign LCB Fred McCulluagh 54/54, QB Walt Johnson 52/52, T Jermaine Maples 48/48, LDE Clay Randal 49/49, WLB Lamount Cook 40/40, RTD Randall Rogers 49/49, RDT Tommy Lee 50/50, & LS Gavin Ellar 18/18
Early Draft Projections:
Coming into draft we wanted to either concentrate on weapons or making the OL stronger. Knowing most of the stud players RB & WR wise would be gone we chose for now the OL and feel we addressed it nicely.
After week 2 / 3 on my case I goofed and did not D/L PS WK 2.
1.24 RG Peter Eden Last of a strong class of G's we liked all his bars a lot I realize these scouting bars could drop and most will but also hope maybe couple bounce upwards. 43/71 49/70 very pleased.
2.29 RB Marcus Jackson Yes he will never be a 100 yards per game RB however if he gets us 60-70 yards a game we will be happy till find a better back. Good Speed, 3rd down, HR, Eluv, & End bars we thought. 32/42 hope this holds or improves a little. 33/41 hopefully his youth will get us some yards this season.
3.12 C Brady Hill Was not impressed at all with the class of C's however we took the first C of draft. Mainly cause we got outbid in FA on the C's & we liked his RB bar. If his scouting holds I am going to call Hill my steal of the draft. 26/51 31/51 Very happy with this pick also.
4.17 LDE Tre Compton He is no Bob Miller and we was going to take him with the 4.2 pick however we was offered a trade to move down. Being sure I would miss him I asked for little extra and got it then got our man. Avg bars of like 50. 25/44 30/49 This guy looks like my steal of the draft hoping he performs well in game.
4.31 LG Bruce Wirthel Was looking for backups on OL liked Wirthels blocking bars. 17/40 18 /30 one of my bust but got him for a back up.
5.5 FS Zane Dauber Waco had contacted us wanting our FS so we traded him leaving us no S so we used this spot to take who we hoped was the best pickings was thin. 20/43 23/41 I am ok with this pick this late in draft.
5.11 MLB We were also hurting at LB's and don't think we found that much here to help 16/37 24/35 I was hoping but did not pan out.
6.4 RT Kris Treftz Looking for backups now to OL 7/39 guessing another bust. 9/28 big bust
7.3 LG Alejandro Burks This is another guy that has possibility being a steal and very solid backup. 23/45 Excellent RB bar. 27/43 This guy looks like he will be my backup.
Over all willing to give this draft class a grade of a C+ with potential of going up to B if guys can hold their scouting numbers within 2-3 spots of current.
Now time to finish filling holes in late FA.
Last years 1.1 pick Mandel has dropped more by my scouts 36/46 I am sure he is one of the biggest OSFL bust of all time. Live and learn, took a gamble some win big, I lost big lmao.
