So we've been through training camp and a couple preseason games. Time to see how our rookies are looking so far and how good of a draft we had here in Punxsutawney.
1.11: RB Kennedy Mayes. Initial rating: 37/45 PSWK2: 41/47 (+4/+2)
Not bad movement here. Plus in the future rating is always a good thing to see. The way things are looking, Mayes will probably start the season backing up veteran FA pickup Jamal Montague.
2.10: WR Bernie Springer. Initial rating: 38/56 PSWK2: 47/61 (+9/+5)
Extremely happy to see Springer jump the way he did. Not only will he jump right into the #2 WR slot. He may challenge Zander Ogden for #1 soon. QB Heath Morton is very happy to have two very good targets to throw to this season.
3.9: T Dana Kolodziej. Initial rating: 27/56 PSWK2: 32/56 (+5/0)
Again. Very happy to see his current go up like it did and the future stay the same. Much better than going backwards. Kolodziej could start the season as the backup RT, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting by the halfway point.
4.8: SS Winston Sheffield. Initial rating: 17/43 PSWK2: 19/31 (+2/-12)
Ouch! Don't like seeing that future drop so much. We had high hopes for Sheffield to be a future starter in the secondary. Now it's looking like he'll be an injury replacement player...if he stays on the team.
5.7: C Marc Nowak. Initial rating: 22/49 PSWK2: 28/56 (+6/+7)
Nowak made a big move already and looks like he will work his way into a very crowded front line. He will certainly be a starter in the future. We were very happy to see him do this well.
6.11: FS Fred Hirschman. Initial rating: 26/46 PSWK2: 31/44 (+5/-2)
Hirschman has impressed so far. Even though his future dropped a little, he still looks like he could have a bright future playing for the Phils. His BnR along with a monster PH bar really makes me think about converting him to a nickle/dime CB. He could really put a good lick on opposing WR's off the line.
7.10: MLB Dan Bratcher Initial rating: 19/33 PSWK2: 22/35 (+3/+2)
Initially we didn't know if Bratcher would make the roster. Considering he has had a good camp and couple games so far, leads us to believe he will stick around for a while. He's another strong guy who could separate ball from ball carrier.
There were also many FA signings this off season as GM Sawblade was looking to get some leaders and mentors. Some of the more notable and standouts are listed below.
RB: Jamal Montague: Initial rating: 56/56PSWK2: 54/54 (-2/-2) Montague will most likely start the season as the team's #1 RB. At least until rookie Mayes develops enough to take over.
DE: Aaron McElreath: Initial rating: 53/53 PSWK2: 52/52 McElreath will start opposite all world DE Greg Ward
TE: Jessie Kurtz: Initial rating: 52/52 PSWK2: 51/51 (-1/-1)Kurtz will start and provide excellent blocking for Mayes and a big target for Morton.
Overall, GM Sawblade tells us he is very pleased with how the draft turned out this year. Now it's up to the coaches to develop these kids and get them winning games.
Here's to a successful season here in Punxsutawney.
Thanks guys. This is probably, from a +/- perspective, the best draft I've ever had. I went with my scouts, who are pretty good, and mostly just on bars. Combines played a small part in the picks. I've tried this in a couple leagues where my scouts "scouting bar" is really good. That bar should make the players bars pretty accurate. So far so good. I just hope these guys play as good as they look right now.
Hello Phils fans. If you've been following your hometown Phils, you know it's been an up and down season already...and we're only in week three. Here are a few of the highlights and lowlights after three games.
High: The Phils are 2-1 and tied for first place in the AC East.
Low: Franchise QB Heath Morton was lost for the season and part of next with a serious quadriceps tear. Along with that, the team currently has eight players on the injured list...and this is only week three.
High: The team is third is scoring, averaging 31.7 points/game. The defense is ranked #1 in pass defense percentage, turnovers and yards allowed.
Low: Rookie 1st round pick, Kennedy Mayes is off to a horrible start. He has rushed for -1 yards on eight carries.
High: CB Shannon Fulton has six interceptions and a pass defend percentage of 100.
So Phils fans, there's a lot to cheer about so far as well as a lot to sit and wonder about. The season is still young, so we won't jump for joy or give up just yet. Let's get behind Horace Dehart, and keep this team pumped up. Show youre support by filling those seats. Next home game is in two weeks against division foe, Ohio River.
