  • Los Alamos Draft

Well my draft is over though I was tempted to offer a future pick or two to move back in. However I decided it was more prudent to take my chances in free agency and let these draft picks develop. Not overly excited about this class but they have potential to contribute now or in the future.

1.6 - RB Martin Ogden UCLA 52/67 - Terrance McCumber is beginning to put on the years and his ratings have been steadily dropping so it was time to find his replacement. Martin will step in as the immediate #2 back and hopefully develop into the full time starter next year. Will probably be just an adequate outside running threat he should excel running inside as his hole recognition and power inside numbers are outstanding.

2.5 - WR Lamar Haddock UTEP 23/54 - Would like to have seen bigger courage and adjust numbers but it's hard to overlook his big play receiving and kick return numbers. Looks to get a lot of special teams time and will see his fair share of work on the field in passing situations I'm sure.

2.25 - LT Sedrick Turnbull Oregon St. 25/51 - With the retirement of Earnest Escbriano I need more depth at tackle. Not a great run block number but the pass block one is outstanding along with an adequate block strength number. With that pass blocking ability we'll probably move him to LT and Erickson to the right

3.7 - DE Freddie Rivard Tulane 17/63 - Needed more depth at DE and drafted this player based on his run defense and PRT. Not a great hitter nor possesses a great PRS number but has high endurance and some speed. I didn't notice that he's a little on the small side when I drafted or I might have looked further. This will be one place we'll be looking in free agency.

4.6 - QB Bucky Jennings NC St. 15/59 - Didn't have a 3rd QB on the team so went looking for a diamond in the rough here. Debated between Jennings and Wilkins but finally fell on Jennings. Has good numbers across the board except for Sense Rush but still better then Austin Cash our starter. Developmental project and will ride the pine for most of this season and probably get a turn in summer camp next yearl

5.5 - DT Shannon Urquoila Kentucky 23/67 - Since switching to the 4-3 we've been looking to add more and better depth to this position, especially with Fred Prior not getting any younger. Nothing outstanding about his combine numbers but my scout says he has great potential so this is where we fell. Numbers in and we like this initial rating. Not to see how far he falls when camp is over but his volatility is 94 so I'm hoping he'll jump the other way.

6.7 - WR Blaine Kanou Florida 16/34 - Always looking to increase my ability at WR so we took a flyer on this kid from Florida. Good size to go with a good 40 time. Lot of potential in that BPR number and a lot of volatility so we are hoping he'll prove a good gamble and fill in the 4th or 5th receiver slot someday. Not impressed by his initial numbers so we'll have to see if he can survive training camp. His one saving grace is that I'm not blessed with a lot of good receivers.

7.6 - K Michael Weber Purdue 54/73 - Our current kicker has not impressed and rather then take another flyer in free agency which landed us where we are we decided to take the kid from Purdue. Our scout had him hard to read but he had some good combine scores and his bars looked good so he is now a Monster. Well the numbers are in and we've got our new starting kicker. Not a bad 7th round pick

Thought that Kanou guy was intriguing. He and Haddock don't look like world beaters necessarily, but seem like solid investments where they were drafted.

    Timely running back there!

Fairly happy with this years draft as three of them are starting and several others are providing good play in their back up positions.
