  • Boston 2027: Finally Some Fight in the Irish

    I haven't done one of these in awhile, and it's long overdue. We finally have a team that's worth talking about in Boston, so let's get to it.

    Fans are really jumping on the bandwagon. Here's a couple diehards that already have their seats claimed.

    New uniforms are in the works:

    And introducing our mascot: Drunky O'Flanagan!

    More to come...

    I'm gonna copy the Bees' style and just go over all 6 drafts since I took over the team and play "Where are they now?"

    The Draft Class of 2021:

    1.1 QB Cary Money (5/24) --> 37/37
    2.4 traded for -> OLB Kendall Downs (31/56) --> Now 9th year 45/45
    3.3 OLB Brady Hoffman (19/38) --> 43/43 Traded to LV for a 2nd
    4.2 RB C.J. Shannon (26/43) --> 50/50 Traded to MOR for DT Wheeler
    5.1 WR Daryl Tubbs (25/40) --> Retired? he never turned out
    5.16 G/C Matt Anthony (16/51) --> 46/46
    6.4 OLB Carlton Jahr (17/57) --> Retired? (I think I traded him)
    6.23 K J.J. Farrow (30/59) --> 46/46
    7.3 QB Dave Chavez (14/41) - Bum
    7.18 OLB Leonard Jenkins (18/39) - Bum
    7.22 DE Randy Ruhman (18/31) - Bum

    Cary Money, Matt Anthony, and JJ Farrow are still integral parts of our offense. A few trades of players from this class have gotten us some nice pieces on the defensive side. Overall, this draft netted us 5 starters and a 2nd rounder that we used later. I'll call it a success.

    The Draft Class of 2022:

    1.1 RB Max Montano - (67/78) --> 82/82
    1.26 WR Trent Grayson - (19/52) --> 49/49
    1.28 FB Lenny Irwin - (35/70) --> 73/73
    2.16 C Roosevelt Bennett - (36/77) --> 64/64 Traded to PHO for 2nd and 3rd
    4.4 DE/DT Ty Guzy - (33/51) --> 39/39
    5.16 C Patrick Briggs - (16/64) --> 35/35 Cut
    6.16 TE Harold Lane - (17/30) --> Bum

    This draft was very good, but we also had a lot of good picks. Montano, Grayson, and Irwin lead the offense still and Guzy is a starter on defense. So, 4 starters and one trade that netted us some decent picks the next year.

    The Draft Class of 2023:

    2.11 ILB Dustin Alexander (24/49) --> 44/44
    2.16 LT Archie McConnell (26/66) --> 50/50
    2.18 WR Howard Emerson (25/53) --> 38/38
    3.26 OLB Winston Raley (22/68) --> 57/57 Traded to NLB for a 2nd
    4.16 S/CB Jake Devine (23/47) --> 40/40
    6.14 TE Archie Compton (20/54) --> Bum Traded to DAK I think
    6.16 CB Deon Johnstone (18/62) --> Bum
    7.13 DE AJ Rambo (22/50) - Bum Traded to DAK I think

    Emerson was a good pick but he volatility crashed (Still not a bad guy to have). McConnell is a great LT. Alexander and Devine are average starters at their positions, nothing special. This draft was nothing to write home about, but we did get a few starters and turned a 3rd into a 2nd.

    The Draft Class of 2024:

    1.13 CB Cory Anastasiades (39/71) --> 69/69
    1.30 DE Archie McElroy (24/60) --> 62/62
    2.25 S Levon Schwartz (25/62) --> 49/49
    2.27 CB/S Alex Nichols (20/62) --> 32/32
    3.8 CB Levon Harding (19/55) --> Bum
    3.16 C Ken Jennings (23/61) --> 54/54
    4.7 WR Shaun Ingram (17/52) --> Bum
    5.20 WR Cedric Moore (16/46) --> 30/37
    5.28 S Vincent Strong (??/??) --> 43/43
    6.1 DT Marcus McElroy (20/49) --> 32/32 Cut
    6.20 TE RJ Tobias (17/48) --> Bum
    7.7 DT Al Atkins (22/53) --> Bum
    7.26 CB Gene Sinclair (24/57) --> Bum Traded to GAI

    I struck out A LOT with mid round picks in this draft. It was really depressing because I usually pride myself on picking up useful guys in rounds 3,4,5. The only decent player I got after 2.25 was Ken Jennings. Moore is a special teams ace, but not a very good WR.

    The top of this class is very good. We got a stud corner, a pass rushing monster in McElroy, and a qualtiy SS in Schwartz. So, 3 starters in this class and they were all high picks. Not my best work.

    EDIT: I guess I did find S Vincent Strong with a 5th rounder. I don't know how I missed him the first time around. He's a nice backup safety, and possible future starter. Also we got DT Cornelius McKnight in LFA this year, who is one of my favorite players on the team. That PRT just keeps climbing!

    The Draft Class of 2025:

    This is where I stopped keeping track of my drafts. The history here is a little spotty since it's from memory.

    1.12 DE Reggie Baxter (20/62) --> 22/27
    1.16 TE Roy Majors (??/54) --> 50/50
    4.9 WR Harold Ingram (??/52) --> 27/47

    I'm sure I had more picks than this, but I can't remember what they were. Reggie Baxter volatility crashed HARD and it killed any and all enthusiasm I had for this class.

    That being said, Baxter is creeping up even after the crash. It looks like his PRT might end up around 70, which is awesome. Majors is our starter at TE for the next 10 years, and Ingram is a useful backup WR. This class overall was pretty weak, obviously, since I can't remember most of it.

    The Draft Class of 2026:

    1.31 DE Rob Techen 22/48
    2.29 WR Clarence McIntyre 34/54
    5.22 DE/DT Mickey Douglas 22/28
    5.26 RB Ian Brewer 36/41
    7.20 G Neal Bradley 15/40

    This class is one that I really like. I think every single player is starter material. McIntyre is a Big Play and RR reciever; Techen and Douglas are creeping, pass rushing DEs; Brewer is a breakaway runner who also converts third downs well, and picks up the blitz; heck, even my 7th round Guard should end up being a decent guy.

      A.J. Rambo was a WLB I picked up as a FA. He was not a bad pass rusher, actually, especially with affinity on my team. Unfortunately for him, I switched to a 4-3 the next season and cut him.

      Compton was a bum but he was good enough to start on my awful 5-11 team a few years ago. He lasted one season.

        Look at all 2 of those Boston fans enjoying themselves ;) Hey, those stands are gonna fill up eventually!

        Wow, what could have been on Baxter. 70 PRT even after all that. I think you have good reason to be stoked about the '26 group. McIntyre could be a find. I'm about to see what that BPR/RR combo can do as well.

          Should be a better version of this guy that has mostly played WR3 for me in my other league:

          I'm thinking he's going to be the best WR drafted in round 2 from recent memory. :)

            He's sitting at 57 by my scout right now, and the green is gone. So, yea. I think that'll end up in the 70s by the time he finishes moving.

            It would've been 100 if not for the crash

              I was upset that Baxter crashed too just because I wanted to see how he turned out without volatility screwing things up. Plus, you didn't deserve to get punked again after Money, even though Money is still decent.

                The Draft Class of 2027:

                Pre-Camp:

                2.26 DT Eugene Lynch (35/57) --> Yep, Boston goes for the pass rusher. Big Surprise. This guy was pretty darn good to be hanging around at the end of the 2nd round, though.

                4.6 OLB Antoine Ervin (21/50) --> Got my pass-defending LB

                4.28 CB Nate Ward (21/47) --> This guy looks like he'll be a Man/BnR corner with some Interception skills, and special teams to boot. Nice grab here.

                5.10 DT Norm Duffy (18/44) --> I can't resist a red 40 time. I'm honestly surprised that I held out until the 5th round to draft him.

                5.27 WR Wayne Hagans (17/47) --> Hagans could be a useful backup reciever if he ends up like his bars show. I like the third down skills, RR, and it looks like Big Play will be around 50. Not too bad for a guy this late.

                6.26 T Tyrell Ridder (19/50) --> Pass blocker. Nothing to see here.

                6.31 OLB Roman Lage (14/42) --> Looks like another pass-defending LB. His M2M should come up and make him an all around good coverage guy.

                7.29 T Arnold Harden (14/46) --> Pass blocker. Nothing to see here.
