I keep thinking each season that it's time for a youth movement, but I keep competing and staying fairly old. We lost DE J.B. Hughes to retirement, but he was at the tail end of his career. This had a big effect on pick #1 for Dakota, and nixed a possible trade for "The Silver Hammer."
.27 A.J. Hassett (DE) - 20/65 - I was thrilled to get Hassett here at a position of need, although if Artie Summers (TE) was available I would have had a really difficult decision to make. Darrin Schoen (WR) would have also been considered if Yuma hadn't snatched him one pick earlier. I feel a lot more confident in this pick than I would have in Schoen, but WR has been a position of need since I took over this team. I feel like I'm getting incredible talent for the 27th pick with Hassett and he's my favorite pick so far in OSFL, beating out Ricardo Dudgeon, who also filled a position of need for me.
.25 David Fuller (QB) - 9/52 - I expect Fuller to drop in TC, I just hope it's not too much. This is the highest I've drafted a QB in OSFL. Parrish is getting old, and it's a year to year thing with him now. Our backup plan is J. Zandofsky, who we signed to a FA contract. I have a feeling I reached for Fuller, but I had no other good ideas at 3.25 and wasn't satisfied with the offers I received to trade out.
.8 Brady Marcum (P) - 35/51 - Might have flubbed this pick. I was very interested in Leslie Griffin in round 3, but he went one pick before my third rounder. Unless Marcum bumps, he might not even beat out the unsatisfying punter I drafted years ago, Stephen "Punt Train" Lane. There's some better UFA punters ratings wise who can drop and would be better than Marcum. If Marcum doesn't improve in TC, I really blew this pick.
.26 Quentin McKnight (T) - 15/33 - I expect McKnight to bump and hopefully be a potential backup/starter at T in the years to come. My starter T's are old and my reserves are weak as starting options. I'll probably have to address T again in the future, and either Billy Wilkins, Rufus Jaster or McKnight will be the odd man out.
.25 Tony Matthews (K) - 30/47 - See the 5.8 description. There are better rated kickers available as UFA's, but I took the no combine Matthews based on bars and on a high sole score. If he doesn't bump I flubbed another pick, but a 7.25 isn't much to cry over. Our longtime kicker Nate Shelton still has a higher rating and a powerful leg, but his accuracy has begun to suffer.
