Well this draft is going to require me to be patient and hopeful with these picks. They all start out with pretty low current ratings but the potential is there so we'll treat the glass as half full for now.
1.11 - Kevin Newman, LDE = 28/68 Needed some help at DE after losing out in free agency and I'm hoping that along with Samson they'll have QB's looking over their shoulders for awhile.
2.10 - Jackie Blue, WLB = 30/62 Wasn't happy with the talent I currently have at SLB and Blue will be moved there to try and bolster that position
4.11 - Rondell Johnson, G = 24/58 With McCumber in the backfield we are going to be constantly looking to upgrade our O-line to try and spring him for more yards. It was time to replace some of the guys who have maxed out much lower then I like.
5.10 - Walt Nichols, C = 14/56 My current center is getting long in the tooth and has been creeping lower so it was time to find a long term replacement and hopefully Nichols will develop in time to fit the bill
6.9 - Bernard Williamson, ILB = 17/37 Was needing depth and hopefully some improvement but it doesn't appear that the improvement part will pan out
7.11 - Les Sutton, TE = 24/49 Had myself all set to pick the safety out of Texas Tech but the SOB picking right in front of me grabbed him and this ended up being a quicky panic pick that just might work out. This is another player who may not be the greatest pass catching TE in the league but I think his run blocking is going to get him some playing time in the future
Overall I'm happy now and will be happier later if these guys reach close to their potential but I was hoping to find some pieces to fit in right away. Newman will be backing up LDE and Blue will probably get some playing time but the rest are going to be projects.
