I was actually happier with my pass defense for a change. I played a lot of nickel or dime in passing situations and it seemed to pay off. I'll get humbled this week though.

Oh yea, it really paid off. I think Boone is also having some issues with his accuracy. But enough with this Boone experiment at QB. In frustration with the running game, I think I'm going to move him to tailback to show those nubs how it's done.

Eat your heart out, Ken Schacht.

Again with the hole recognition. I'm going to hire a cheerleader as an assistant coach.

Uh....think the future of my secondary ain't what I thought it was? Freaking Myron Anderson ripped them a new one. Desmond Kaplan goes nuts for 376 yards.

              Utah 23, vs Morgantown 20

And damn, Bennie Austin, that LB I was so high on and gave the start to, I think he needs a re-eval by me. 11 tackles (30+% tackpct!) but 7 passes allowed. I can't figure out if he was a terror all over the field, or the reason we got owned.

The report on the young players that got their chance to prove something today:

RB Ken Schacht - Boulware gets the week off in another attempt to try to build a running attack out of Schacht's athleticism. 10 carries, 18 yards. Gah. Plummer didn't do so well today, either. 5 carries, 8 yards, one of them for a 6-yard loss. Never seen a RB take so many huge losses, as Plummer. Plummer had a fumble too. High risk, high reward.

WR Richie Carlisle - 5th round rookie gets activated and stuck in the lineup, and responds with 3 catches, 22 yards, and a score. I feel good about the back three of my WR depth - but neither Vandersommen nor Poston have sparkled this year. Carlisle had a good preseason, and he got to shine in gametime. He may have earned himself a spot on the active roster in weeks to come...

OG Bryce Forbes - 3rd round pick from this past draft gets his second start of the season, and the first one on purpose. Veteran mentor Moe Palmer has had a good year being plugged in as a starter, but Forbes has seen some time and has been solid. I think I may have something usable here with Forbes...Fujimoto, on the other hand, I think he's got a ways to go yet.

CB Kevin Cate - 2 tackles, 2 catches allowed in 41 pass plays, with the start at right cornerback. There may actually be something to work with here...

SS Donnie Berlat - 7 tackles, 5 catches allowed in 38 pass plays after notching the start at FS. I think I've found where my defense got owned so bad...

              --

All told, I had no right to win this game. I feel lucky, so lucky, to have escaped with a W and to be 9-2 now. We gambled big, got some young players some badly needed development, and managed to get away with it. We were the only team in the AC West to win this week. It's good, because there is a very real chance that I drop the next four games in a row.

Utah 35, Port City 38 (OT)

Most exciting game of the year for us. Unfortunately, we lose and we're at 9-3 now.

New motto: Utah running backs. Go ahead, run 4-deep defense and aggressively expect the pass. They'll still lose two yards.

                    ;)

INTERCEPTION WATCH: Kevin Cate put the Bees defense their first INT of the year in Week 8, and another one today has the defense pulling even with QB Randy Boone. Both have four interceptions on the year through twelve games.

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, hide yo QB too, 'cause he's sacking errbody out there: Ian Subramanian continues his torrid, almost ridiculous pace. After two solid years of pass-rushing for the Bees, he's broken out and transcended into god-like status. 14.5 sacks last year wasn't good enough. He's upped his Pass Rush % by a full percentage point so far this year and has 10.5 in twelve games - including three against Port City.

Randy Boone no longer has any green! His OVR matches his potential now. I know that's not the whole story, but I'm still saddened by this development.

I saw that. He's on a tear this year.

I've been taking note too. I stare at his bars and dream of replicating a Subramanian on my own team, preferably with an similarly incredibly awesome name.

In other Bees related news, Britt Peters will finally get to start this week, hopefully paying dividends for my Utah Bees trade last year. My receivers aren't too good so I wanted to make sure I had someone who could catch some balls if Nate Garrett goes down, and down he went in the 4th quarter of my Waco rout.

I love Sub. I didn't draft him, but when I pounced on him after Pat didn't resign him as a RFA, I did not expect him to do this well.

It's too bad you don't have Dietz anymore, Foosball. They were a good pair :) How is Britt doing? Is Garrett your starting TE?

Yeah, Garrett's my starter, and he's been an incredible asset to my passing game. Dietz isn't bad and I'm sure he'll bounce around the league as a backup for quite a while. He kept us in the game when he had to start even though he didn't do anything amazing.

Peters never seems to get many targets in my two TE sets and he only got two targets this week as the starter. All my receivers are decent although not great, so that's not too surprising. He'll be starting the next two weeks too, so he has his time to shine!
