  • AC West week 16

Sorry guys real life has been busy..and thanks for picking up the slack.

so here we are week 16 and we could have another photo finish as we had the last few years.

Utahs magic number is 1 as they travel to 5-9 north liberty the bees really would like a win to put a stop to a 3 game skid so they can rest up some player and go into the playoffs healthy. also as history dictates if you leave the ac west to the last game of the season, stuff happens. and utah does not want to play the rival riders the last day to lock things up.

if utah loses Los alamoas is very much alive winning 3 of the last 4 and hosting a mediocre st paul team, Hunter Mcgarrahan is nursing a bad knee so they could look to lean on the rookie Cucumber, but they will need a Utah loss to have any hope. but as always 1st priority is to TCB at home.

Denver and Phoenix are simply playing out the string, denver has looked very good of late as their young players have grown in leaps and bounds, they have the leading canidate for defensive MVP and possibly the rookie defensive mvp as well. Denver has done a good gob in the draft and look to only get better, they will be a force to be reckoned with next year.

The Riders just could not find the answer at QB this year they tired everyone but the cheerleaders former 2nd round pick Patrick Ramsey got his chance and couldnt get it done and with the injries up front the running game was average st best and not enough to hide the flaws at QB. they are getting old so they will have many needs to address this offseason,

the one hope for this season is if Utah loses and los alamos wins phoenix could play spoiler in the last week of the season

Let's see if I can figure out the tiebreakers here. Assuming identical W/L and Division records, next up seems to be common opponents. Here's the breakdown between Utah and LA:

    Utah

    DEN 2-0
    STP L
    WAC W
    MEM L
    PHO W
    PC W
    NOS W
    CHI W
    DAK L

    NLB and PHO to play

    Record: 7-3

    Los Alamos

    PHO 1-1
    NLB W
    PC L
    WAC L
    MEM L
    NOS L
    DEN W
    DAK W
    CHI W

    STP and DEN to play

    Record: 5-5

So, if Utah loses out and Los Alamos wins out, this is also a tie and we go to the 3rd tiebreaker: conference record. There Utah is 7-4 currently and Los Alamos 3-8, so it looks like even if I lose out, I've guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. Which would be good, as it means I can rest some guys now, and give 4-5 of my rookie backups some *extensive* PT, to see what I have there. There's no chance of a 1st-round bye, anyway, which I would have liked...

What a wacky season in the wild, wild west.

It looked like Utah would run away with things early on, but in the end we've all evened out to be mediocre, with the playoff nominee being just the luckiest of the bunch, in terms of tiebreakers and how the schedule shook down.

Hm. Good point. Anyone know if that's how the tiebreakers in FOF actually work? Would just like to know before I start my 15/29 rookie safety.

I wouldn't bet the farm on it. We had this discussion in one of my other leagues and no one knew for sure, in spite of some seasoned FOF players being part of the discussion.

Strick, great write-up as usual. I will just correct and say that McCloud is up for "rookie of the year" and not just defensive rookie of the year... ;-) But a couple more games like that from Cucumber and he's the offensive rookie of the year, hands down.

                Time to experiment

It probably won't even come to it, but I'm just thinking, if it does...it would still be very tricky for the tiebreakers to fall LA's way.

Well I can't imagine any scenario where Utah doesn't end up the division champ but I'd sure like to win out to better last year's record. With my QB hobbling McCumber is going to get a chance to get back into the offensive rookie of the year chase though.

He's already back in it if you ask me:

                      1 RB Greg Diblasio (MOR) 535.9, 266-996 rush, 3.7 ypc, 2TD, 4 fmb. 12 tgt, 5 catches, 92yds, 7.7 ypt, 0TD, 1 drp. 3(16)
                      2 RB Terrance McCumber ( LA) 488.2, 194-809 rush, 4.2 ypc, 4TD, 3 fmb. 38 tgt, 27 catches, 91yds, 2.4 ypt, 0TD, 2 drp. 1(10)

Of course, one game still missing from the stats but you get the picture.

Now let me talk about my guys again... I'm selfish, you know. ;-)

Defensive player of the year first:

                        1 SLB Bubba Corbett (DEN) 1,201.9, 101 tkl, 24 ast, 5.5 sk, 6 hur, 11 qbkd, 3 int.
                        2 LCB Nicky Wallace (BOS) 1,178.5, 6 int, 16 passdef, 25 ctc, 402 psply, 91.2 pdpct, 43 tkl, 15 ast.
                        9 LCB Kurt McCloud (DEN) 948.6, 6 int, 14 passdef, 37 ctc, 408 psply, 85.9 pdpct, 47 tkl, 10 ast.

Very tight. Corbett has to have great games in the last two to win it... But he's already shown a lot for last year's 1.27 pick. Nicky Wallace was a 1.1.

                          Defensive rookie of the year:

                          1 LCB Kurt McCloud (DEN) 948.6, 6 int, 14 passdef, 37 ctc, 408 psply, 85.9 pdpct, 47 tkl, 10 ast. 1(20)
                          2 WLB Carlos Melnick (DEN) 687.5, 33 tkl, 14 ast, 8.5 sk, 8 hur, 0 qbkd, 0 int. 4(17)
                          4 SILB Kendall Downs (DEN) 618.8, 62 tkl, 28 ast, 3 sk, 2 hur, 0 qbkd, 1 int. 2(26)
                          17 RCB Bobby Wrighster (DEN), 401.0, 1 int, 5 passdef, 19 ctc, 293 psply, 79.6 pdpct, 22 tkl, 6 ast. 1(15)

Like McCloud's lead was not big enough already. Maybe I can get the top three here?

I absolutely love that you guys do this, btw, and I'm totally stealing the idea. I'm fortunate to be in pretty active divisions in each league I'm in, think it'll work nicely.

I tend to forget about it because of how the forum is laid out, but it's much appreciated.
