  • AC West: Week 11

A week of divisional battles as Utah takes on Los Alamos in their house, and Phoenix welcomes Denver.

Phoenix are 1-point favorites in-game, and Utah are 2-point favorites. Could be some close matchups...Los Alamos is missing its star rookie rusher in "Cucumber", but the Patriots probably thought the Packers would roll over and die with Matt Flynn in place of Aaron Rodgers, too. Both teams are dealing with a rash of other more minor injuries, too - Los Alamos on the offensive line, and Utah in their secondary, where two of the top three corners continue to sit out.

3rd-year man Richie Ingram's injury is particularly tough, but it looks like coaches are expecting him to return from the broken fibula for the playoffs, and therefore have not put him on injury reserve.

A Utah win gives them a commanding lead in the division. However, Los Alamos has been the surprise of the early going of this year, especially with their knocking off of Denver. If the Monsters win, they are right in the mix for the division title.

Denver and Phoenix are both recent division winners that have fallen on hard times this year. A Denver win would plummet Phoenix to bottom-feeder status, so I am expecting Strick to pull this out and keep the evenly-matched, consistently mediocre theme of the AC West going. Can't we get some write-ups about more powerful divisions with better teams?

Fun fact: LA 5th-year receiver Jason Durham and 5th-year linebacker Tommie Nowakowski are both in their second year with the Monsters, and both 2015 Utah Bees draft picks, at 4.32 and 5.17, respectively. It was my second draft in the OSFL. The top run-defending DEs on each team - Timothy Fletcher (LA) and Tito Terrell (Utah) - were both first round selections from that same draft; Fletcher at 25 and Terrell at 17.

Thanks for keeping this going... I am much less motivated.

I just wish the stats on the main page were updated. I wanted to see how McCloud is doing in the race to DROTY. I think I also have some other players that would be high on the list...

And Corbett must be up there on the DPOTY list, in spite of missing a game due to injury.

I seem to be able to put up great individual performances on defense but the team effort is not enough to produce wins. I'm sure that will turn around at some point - but maybe not this season.

yeah thanks man things are still rough for me but it helps the immersion and ill have a bit more time soon. i also wanted to say.......DMAN i suck

now then, after several mediocre preformances <racus Ramsey has been benched in favor of foley. its hoped that foley's touch (bigger accuracy and timing bars) on passes SHOULD lead to bigger plays from the WR corps, and hopefully TE Zach Rayburn can find his form from last season where he was a top 10 rated passing te i think ive beten Will Shumway into the earth

Well, Denver got the better of Phoenix and we are seeing the most separation in this division in a while. Utah gets mad lucky this week. The penalties have got to stop. This was a special teams victory all the way for us - the kind that's hard to ever count on happening again. We escaped out of Los Alamos with a win and am not looking forward to going back down there when they'll have a RB that doesn't suck.

I've stopped caring about the games and just want to see how my rookies perform. I was also hoping Ross could pick up his 1st 1000 yard season but with his knee injury (thanks, Strick) that will have to wait.

One game missing from the stats but regardless, McCloud has a huge lead for defensive rookie of the year. And Melnick has really come on in recent weeks to vie for 2nd place on the list. Not bad for a 4th round pick:

          1 LCB Kurt McCloud (DEN) 620.6 5 int, 7 passdef, 25 ctc, 291 psply, 85.4 pdpct, 32 tkl, 7 ast. 1(20)
          2 WLB Carlos Melnick (DEN) 493.8 26 tkl, 10 ast, 6.5 sk, 5 hur, 0 qbkd, 0 int. 4(17)
          8 SILB Kendall Downs (DEN) 426.8 43 tkl, 18 ast, 2.5 sk, 2 hur, 0 qbkd, 0 int. 2(26)
          15 RCB Bobby Wrighster (DEN) 339.4 1 int, 4 passdef, 13 ctc, 215 psply, 81.2 pdpct, 16 tkl, 5 ast. 1(15)

I just looked at the log. Another weird comeback for me. Pheonix is up 10-3 heading into the 4th quarter and we score 10 unanswered points for the win.

I think this is a good example of one aspect of my double coverage testing. I blanket Morrison with double coverage and my best CB and what happens... The 0 read defense QB targets him 40% of the time. And a weird quirk - Wrighster did not appear at all in the defensive statistics. I had to check and yes indeed he was on the field for 15 pass plays and 15 run plays. The QB just stayed away from him - even though he was always playing single coverage.

The defense only allows 138 net passing yards and two ints (224 net yards total offense). So something about my pass defense worked in spite of the big game by Morrison.

It will help to get Browning back off of his knee injury... But I'm not sure how we can score points on offense without WR Ross. North Liberty looks like they are on autopilot, though. So I guess anything is possible.
