  • AC West week 8

Strick - I hope you don't mind if I steal your thunder on this one. I am pumped to play Nutah.

Denver (3-3) visits Utah (3-3) in a game that could have huge implications for the division. If Utah wins, there is a good chance he could start to run away with things. He would already be 3-0 in the division and virtually 2 games up on Denver.

Denver lost their home opener to Utah 37-27 in an error filled game that they surely would like to forget. Denver's defensive leader Bubba Corbett stood up in the locker room today and called this a "manhood" game. He said that the defense will have to win this one since the offense has been MIA all season. And... the rumor is that Corbett will play in spite of a bad viral infection that he was hospitalized for earlier this week. If that does not fire up the team, who knows what will. Well, the defense will be fired up at the very least.

Ben's site has Utah as the 5 point favorite although solesemic puts even odds on it. I'm going to be a homer and say that Denver wins a close one by having another stellar defensive performance.

Pheonix (2-4) plays host to Memphis (4-3), the most pass happy team in the league. Yep, Memphis is averaging just under 16 rushes per game and just over 51 passes per game. The 51 passes is crazy - it is 8 better than the #2 team (New Orleans). And it is not even because he has been behind very much. On paper, it looks like Memphis will eat Pheonix for lunch, since Pheonix has the 2nd worst pass defense in the league. Strick: let me give you a hint here: play a pass defense as much as possible, with nickle and dime sets whenever you can. I think Phoenix will surprise and pull off the upset here.

Los Alamos (1-5) is hosting New Orleans (2-4). Let's see if nelmsm can get Cucumber's season turned around - starting tonight. I'm betting that this is not the game since New Orleans is #3 in the league at stopping the run and have the #2 team defensively in terms of yards allowed. Then again, Los Alamos is #3, so this has the makings of a brilliant defensive match-up. You won't catch me watching this one, I hate defensive games. I predict that LA gets the upset here, with a last second FG.

Depending on the results of this week, the divisional picture could start to get a bit clearer.

It's going to be critical to beat Denver. It won't be the end of the world if we lose, but it would be tremendous to have that kind of cushion this early on in the season...3-0 in the division, with 2 Denver and 1 Phoenix making up those games.

But this is the AC West, and I won't forget losing to struggling CPU Los Alamos to blow the division crown to Strick a couple years back. We're all mediocre and the records reflect that.

That said, I am thinking I will probably lose this one. First game we had some magic (or Denver had some struggles) that I don't think we can duplicate.

chuck np, LOL i got 2 softball leagues starting this week so thanks, and yeah thanks for the advice ( i uploaded last night) but i think im like 80% nickel %10 dime.

i think i can pull the upset off ive got the running game to play keep away and we might be able to score a few points with morrison back in the lineup ramsey will have his safety blanket. memphis secondary is pretty shaky and nobody has exposed them yet, look for a big game from my TE's i put in tons of 2 te sets this week. hopefully we attack his safetys and get some big plays there

ill say this first team to 21 wins this game, and hpefully utah and denver beat the begezzers out of each other :) hoping for lots of injuries

Booya! Utah shows up to play and completely dominates Denver....sort of. Three touchdowns in a flurry of 5 minutes in the fourth quarter brings it from 27-0 to 27-21 and all of a sudden, the Grizzlies have a legit shot at winning the game.

Thankfully, we're able to put it away. My goodness, no idea what happened with that collapse.

Now it's time to get our butts handed to us by Port City! Still, the early going of AC West division play has gone grandly for us.

Boone has by far his best game. Hopefully it's a breakout game for him. 25/32, 279 yards, 2TD-1INT against that secondary is nothing to sneeze at. Ross was liable to do some serious damage, but fortunately Coughenor had a bit of a bad day.

Yeah, GG Nutah. The score does not do you justice. It was a complete domination. I really changed up the defense and got nothing for it.

My predictions were 100% wrong. That's the last time I will make predictions.

The only saving grace is St. Paul currently has a 2-5 record. If the trends continue, I may have two top 10 picks come draft time (yeah, I might have to give up a 2nd for St. Paul's first but I'll take a top 10 pick any day).

On the other hand... maybe I can still turn it around. I don't think my schedule the rest of the way is exactly filled with bowl contenders.

Oh yeah, and I think the Coughenour experiment is over. He threw more TDs than INTs but could not exactly move the ball for me. Humphries has looked a lot better in limited action. But let's face it, a QB is need #1 going forward, just before a #1 WR.

That's what I was afraid of when you made that trade with St. Paul. You are going to have too much in your arsenal next year for this division to handle.

GG though, see you on the field next year.

If it could go bad this week it did. 5 fumbles with 3 lost, an interception and a punt returned for a touchdown plus 2 missed field goals. If there was a function for it I'd drop by the locker room for a good ol' fashioned ass chewing like my old high school coach used to do it.
