Here we are week 4 in the wild west. and things are wild indeed.
Utah arguably the preseason pick to win the division is on a 2 game skid, not time to panic but the way this division has been you dont want to get too far below .500. and they have a good chance to get better against 0-3 waco and its just what the doctor ordered. waco has managed only 1 td in 3 games, this should be a chance for Randy Boone and Alvin Foley to get on the same page and really do some damage. The odds makers agree as utah is a 8 point favorite. Utah has won 4 of the last 5 in this series
Denver ran into a buzz-saw last week in the form of A.j. McGee who touched the ball over 40 times in their game (38 rushes and 3 passes caught). now they face Memphis, a curious team with no clear personality led by 16 year QB Dusty Cowell, the admirals were 7-9 last year and looking to improve. Denver is looking ti get back on track and hopefully the youngsters on that team learned from last weeks "manhood" game. Memphis is favored by 3 on the road, and has won 4 of the last 5. i have a feeling the folk in the mile high city arent pleased about that
in the final ac west game of the week Phoenix finally leaves the nest for their 1st road game of the year and they head down south nto New Orleans! (mamma hide the gumbo!) it has been 12 years yes 12 YEARS since phoenix last beat the stingrays back in 2007! and that looks to continue with the season and possibly career ending injury to 2 time probowl G Ethan Fox. the rides had decided to refocus themselves on the running game as they are 15-6 when RB Will Shumway rushes for 100 yards or more. now they may have to rely on journeyman Qb Marcus Ramsey and 3rd year WR Alfred Morrison but the wild card this year could be an unsung player TE Zach Rayburn he was 3rd on the team last yer in catches yards td's and he averaged 13 yards a catch. if not this will be another long season for the Riders
last but not least Los alamos has a bye this week and a chance to stew over the 33-7 schellacking they took at the hands of Anchorage. pressure is high even this early in the season as the west is usually very close and nobody looks to pull from the pack anytime soon.
interesting fact in the last 3 years the division winners Utah, Phoenix, and Denver all won the divison on the last day of the year, and all 3 had 5-1 in division records.
the key to the west seems to be winning in division
