  • AC west 2019 week1

So for week 1 the scheduling gods have gifted us with inter conference gold as the top 2 teams from last year face off in Utah and Denver and teh bottom 2 face off in Los Alamos and Phoenix.

Utah faces a stingy D as Denver was in the top 10 in yards allowed and only allowed 16 points a game. They also are trying to break in QB Randy Boone is this his year after holding a clipboard all or 2018 or will Carl Reese prove hes still got some gas left in the tank? Denver who came out of nowhere and won the division on the last day of the season, looks continue its dominance on D, but also needs to improve on its 13 point a game average from last year.

Denver has won 4 of the last 6

in the other match up the hapless Riders take on Los Alamos in a ho hum game the bottom 2 of the division face off with more questions than anything. Phoenix is only 2 years removed for its west title yet went 4-12 last year, what went wrong? what will be different? As for LA this year with injuries in the secondary and a rookie RB will they shift to a ground attack or will they continue to rely on their passing attack?

Phoenix has won 5 of the last 7

I love the write-up. Keep this stuff coming, I will try to do the same.

I'm really looking forward to see what Nutah has in store for me in week 1. More than just team performance, I want to see how some of my individual players can perform.

I was hoping to see something before I went off to bed, but I guess I will have something to look forward to tomorrow.

In the week prior to gameday, it was announced that 2nd-year man Randy Boone would get the starting nod for the Bees.

Said Boone: "We're gonna smoke Denver. I effing guarantee it."

Well, he's not short of confidence, this one.

      (Edit) Good write-up, strick! :D

in the snoozer of the week in the ac west Phoenix and Los alamos had a damn pillow fight! the riders D pickeled and bottled up (yeah i said it) rookie sensation Terrance "the Cucumber" McCumber holding him to just 38 yards on 20 carries. while they had no answer for the aireal attack allowing QB Hunter McGarrahan to go 33 for 43 317yds 1 td with a 94.8 rating, McGarrahans 1 pick was costly as it came 3 plays into OT after winning the coin toss.

in stark contrast Marcus Ramsey's 1st OSFL start was a rocky one, he had his frist career td dropped by WR Harvie Beattie, and threw his first career INT near the end of the 1st half witch allowed Los Alamos to scored a TD and tie the game going into the half. "the guys were great about it telling me to keep my head up and just get to the next snap, especially J.B.", referring to 10th year and 6 time pro bowl C J.B. Mahon, "he really helped settle me down and kept me focused".

Ramsey was at best average, he missed badly on a few throws to tempermental WR Harvie Beattie throwing 6 balls his way Beattie only caught 1, although he seemed to have most success when forced to throw on the move when the pocket broke down including a couple of key 3rd down conversions. he also mixed it up completing passes to 8 different recivers.

"obviously were happy with the win" said head coach Roger "the gambler" Kenny, "and the fact we only allowed 3 red zone posessions and 2 were off turnovers, but we gave up too many big plays on defense". Pheonix had some big plays of thier own the game breaker occured with the monsters having just scored to put Phoenix down 7 with less than 4 minutes left on the first play from scrimmage Randall Lacasse rumbled for a career long 65 yd TD to tie things back up

this game was significant too consdiering the training camp trade where these 2 teams exchaned Cb's a slightly disgruntled Barry Perras spoke after the game, "damn right it felt good to win! those guys never gave me the long term security i need for me and my 4 kids! everyday i go out there all i think about is my babies. Leshaun,Michael,......ummmm Nichelle and...........baby Jojo." Perras beamoaing the fact he had been franchised twice my Los Alamos.

"on the play with the pick, ive practiced enough with Hunter and i saw him look off the safety and i knew where he was going i was sittign in my zone and i just jumped the route, just wish i could have taken it to the house tho. i scored my 1st TD last year and im ready for one more. this time im gonna do the Dougie then the Bernie!"

on the flip side Blane Gimmarro was asked if he gave his guys any pointers on Ramsey since there was little film on him he smiled coyly and said "if i did it wasnt enough cause we lost, but well be ready for them in week 9. but i gotta focous on the game next week."

The riders have won 6 of the last 8 and host a tough Dakota team for week 2

Los Alamos has their home opener with N Liberty

in the game that was actually watchable in the Mile high city 14 points were scored in less than 2 minutes as Utah went 3 and out in the first possession but in a good way as Randy Boone connected on a 50 yard pass and then a 30 year strike, not to be outdone on the ensuing kickoff Bobby Kudlacz takes it 89 yards to the house.

Just that alone was better than the Los Alamos/Phoenix game... but the 2 teams gave the fans their moneys worth as after the Bees 1st score Dever scored 21 unanswered. but not to be done Utah returns the favor scoring thru the air on the ground and by blocking 2 punts.

Denver was out of sorts all day with the 2 aforementioned blocked punts and 6 fumbles losing 2 and throwing 1 interception. they also allowed 4 sacks Kelly Coughenour was cool under pressure all day but the Bees offense swarmed up and down the field.

The bees were pleased with the play of 1st round pick Norbert Slaten the LB from Dartmouth, one of a handful of Ivy leaguers in the OSFL, in spite of seeing very limited action (only 16 plays) he was very efficient recording 4 tackles

The Grizz cant feel too bad about the loss, they started 2 second year players and 7 rookies including both starting CB's. this was one of the stingiest defenses from last year but the GM said Charles said he wants to build through the draft and is on a 3 year plan.

with this win Utah looks to be in the drivers seat for the AC west title, granted its 1 week in but utah looked very impressive

Utah goes to St paul next week

while Denver heads to the windy city as a 12 point underdog
