We get even riskier and take TE Skip Harper with the 3-18 and then G Tito Reese at 3-20. And we still leave two guys on the board that we really, really want and hope one of them slips to 4-17.
Harper was interviewed at VU by my scout, although his bars left me baffled. I think he has creeper potential but it was definitely a risk. One GM admitted that he almost grabbed him, though.
I did not interview Reese but looking around at the players left on the board, he definitely stood out. A nice 40 time for his position. He lacks pass blocking but I hope he creeps a bit there. I was pretty sure he would go off the board soon if I did not take him - he definitely would not make it to 4-17.
So who do I want that is still on the board? There is still some great talent out there. QB Chris Willard is a player that I definitely missed, though.

Reese was VU. Might be true. Not sure. What makes me hesitate about that is he has the bars that look like a masked OL, but his combine scores make them look like they're right where they should be. I had this little pipe dream that I'd nab him in the 6th or something. LOL.
Willard looks good.
Harper I had as VO.Last edited by Aston; 03-21-2011, 11:23 AM.Float likeabutterflysting likeabee.

It's why I went with some RB I didn't interview or especially like or even consider 5 minutes before picking him at 2-30, on the basis of ST play if/when he doesn't pan out as a RB.Float likeabutterflysting likeabee.

Nice to hear about Reese, though. Although I am doubting your scout, a boom would be nice. ;-)

If Jughead says he's solid I'm inclined to agree, but 10-12 years? That's a long time!Float likeabutterflysting likeabee.

Looks like a disappointing pick with Harper and then we missed Raymond Sosinski, the next guy on our list. But luckily Carlos Melnick slipped to the 4.17.
Melnick was the last guy on my list that I really, really wanted. So my gamble in the 3rd paid off. He will make the move to WLB. VU by my scout and I do not question him for a second. He will be a solid pass rusher and with our 2.26 pick Kendall Downs, I have all the LBs that I need to make the transition to a 3-4 defense.

I didn't have the same confidence about Melnick maxing out in PRT as you did. I wish I had. I would have taken him at 2.30 if that were the case, instead of my probably VO running back. You just don't pass up an elite sack machine to fill a need at 3rd RB and gunner.
Den: you have a scary good draft so far. WRighster's a mega-stud. McCloud and Logan and Downs are all going to be great. Brunell's a starting punter for sure. Melnick will be a monster And Reese could creep.
Early AC West favorites, I have to say.Float likeabutterflysting likeabee.

Offensively we will lack a lot. No legitimate starting QB or RB (realistically Gerard is probably a #2), still looking for a starting TE and FB. No legitimate #1 WR although Ross is a solid #2 and will do as a #1 for now. The offensive line will be good (still young) but I still need a starting RT. And I'm not convinced that Shields is a starting C yet.
Depth and special teams will also be a concern (although my shiny new punter will help). I think we take a step backwards this season, let someone else win the division and take stock in the fact that we will have 70-80 million in cap room to make moves next season.
