  • UTA: End of the Wynn Era, again?

Salt Lake City (AP) -- At the beginning of last season, Ellis Wynn aired his frustrations over not being named the opening day starter. Fortunately for the Bees, Wynn would return in week 4 to start the remaining 13 games of the season, outdoing formerly departed, now-back Utah star Bryce Foy in the process.

Recently, it was disclosed that the team was simply being exceptionally cautious with an injury to Wynn's left ankle (*snort*), rather than a case of a waffling, indecisive head coach.

However, Wynn will be 36 by the time the upcoming 2018 season starts, and is not currently under contract. And despite a stellar 2016 year, the Old Man - as he is referred to around these parts, though the moniker itself doesn't narrow things down around the Utah Bees - took quite a step back in 2017.

If it is the end for Wynn's 2-year run in Utah, let's take a look at where Utah might go next. The two remaining quarterbacks on the roster are Foy, nearing 35 and entering his 14th season, and 22-year old Rico Dietz, the 2nd-year former UCLA hotshot.

    We'll keep you posted!

[I got the idea of putting Bees uniforms into Madden 08...turned out OK, I think! It's much more interesting when we can see the players...]

Interesting situation in Utah. On one hand you have an old QB who is out of contract and who would take some serious cap room to keep for another year or two, but would work as a mentor for the young QB.

On the other you have a not so old QB who isn't showing any mentoring ability who could try and win in the twilight of his career. The question is, do either of these QB's give you a shot at championship, and if not what prepares your team for the future the best.

Beautiful practice facility by the way.

Yeah. It was the same choice last year (they are about the same age though, Foy and Wynn). The most interesting thing was Foy started for Utah back when he was great, got signed away by someone in FA, and after a couple seasons there came back on the cheap to back up Wynn. After camp, he had the better ratings and bars, but I felt that chemistry was more solid with Wynn and he gave me an OK year.

If Foy starts next year, it will be an interesting "Welcome back after starring for us back in the day, getting hurt for a year and a half, starring for us again, and then getting signed away in FA for a few years."
