The Newest Phantoms
WR Fernando Poole – Utah – 6’1 215 – 1.27
Poole is big, fast, can run after the catch and can get open. His bars look really, really good and my scout (vg on young players, vg on receivers) thinks he is very underrated. On top of that Poole has affinity with a team leader. Not necessarily a “need” position, the Phantoms run a lot of three-WR sets and my leading receiver last season is a 10-year veteran.
DB Pat Hartwig – Nevada – 5’9 205 – 3.28
Hartwig was one of the fastest players in the draft and one of the best position scores. He isn’t great against the run, is a little undersized and isn’t the smartest player on the field. With his size and speed combo, I think he is a better fit at cornerback than he is at safety. Plus, I’m deeper at safety than I am corner.
OL Greg Bell – San Diego State – 6’4 351 – 4.2
Bell is huge, strong and great at pass protection. His bars look good, but I don’t expect him to be the best run blocker and he isn’t all that smart. He might need to move to tackle. I have a lot of old guys along the line and this definitely helps with depth.
TE Riddick Vilimek – Penn State – 6’4 247 - 5.21
Smart, strong and a great run blocker. He also has great endurance and special teams ability. I have a clear #1 TE in Hugh Warren, so if I can get a great special teamer and a great run blocker for my double TE sets, I'll be pleased.
QB Robert Sanders – Louisiana Tech – 6’1 199 - 7.29
Not only is Sanders the fastest QB in the draft, he is one of the fastest overall players. He can’t throw long. He can’t throw medium range. But, he is a scrambler who I can develop on the bench for a few years and hope he becomes good enough to be a #2.Last edited by Pat; 12-24-2009, 02:48 PM.Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-

You should try Sanders at wide receiver.Maine Guides

Washington Bombers 2015
1.1 - CB Nate Graham - Can't deny he's a good looking player. 3 blue, 2 red, good size, great bars. He should make Holloman better, and suddenly the defensive backfield - Graham-Testa-Benson-Holloman - looks pretty solid. Without a surefire stud QB sitting there, this was the best pick. McGettigan would've been a good grab too, but Graham should pay off quicker.
2.1 - DT OJ Monroe - Hoping for some volatility and maybe a size bump in TC. Bars and weight make him look more like a DE currently, and not a great one at that.
3.1 - WR Lenny Weaver - Fantastic bars, doubtful they'll hold. However, if his PR/KR holds up at all, he'll be a great pickup for that alone. This team has precious little for return-men, so this could be a huge upgrade.
4.1 - DT Bubba Snyder - Another undersized DE-looking tackle. Will have to see TC before I get too excited.
5.1 - OLB Pete Lundgren - Looking a little long in the tooth at OLB, Pete should have a chance to develop at least. Good size, and two blues in the fifth, that's ok.
6.1 - QB Leo Snyder - *traded for 5th, 6th, two 7ths in 2016* - I did like Snyder, but not enough to pass up some depth next year. Besides, everytime I saw his name, I'd think of Leo Sayer and get songs stuck in my head.
7.1 - RB Randy Tate - Have a whole bunch of nothin' at RB, so took a stab here. Two blues, no greens. Imagine he'll be a good short-yardage back if nothing else.
Overall, doesn't quite look like the draft class the Bombers needed. No superstud QB or WR as a clear #1, and no apparent 'gems' in the latter rounds. Graham is a can't-miss. Weaver should contribute heavily in ST, and as a 2nd/3rd WR. The DTs will get plenty of chances to become starters, but they're big wait-and-sees currently.

Well the North Liberty Enforcers held the number 2 overall pick and were looking to trade down right away. I knew that we needed a lot more help than a top pick alone. Right when I thought we were gonna have to make the pick, the warroom phone rings and a deal is made shortly for the entire Columbus draft. Many more deals were made, but here is the basic breakdown:
1.15 - T Lawerance Green - Good overall skills. Will be looking to start him from day 1.
1.19 - CB Vinny O'Neal - With 3 blues and a red and our need so great at CB, he was an obvious choice here.
2.14 - WR Adrian Grier - Again, as with O'Neal, 3 blue bars, a red and a great need at WR, equals a clear choice.
2.15 - G Louie Benney - O-line was another big need and Benney has good combine numbers at the right places. Possible that he starts right away like Green.
3.2 - C Joey Newman - No centers signed as of the draft, so I really needed to get a guy that can play right away. Newman has no strength to speak of, but good technique and 47% developed.
3.14 - ILB Jesse Murphy - Not a glaring need, but Murphy looked like he was gonna get snatched up, so I grabbed him here. I like his development and bars/combines jived pretty well.
4.27 - RB Burt Burke - We have our starter at RB, but no one signed. Needed some depth here and someone with return ability.
5.26 - CB Lee Monroe - More depth at a position that needed a massive overhaul. Decent bars and no green except broadjump.
6.2 - QB Quinn Hoffman - No QB save our starter on the roster (thanks to Utah). Needed a young guy to learn behind Allen. Good bars with no green. Has a 0 for sense rush though.
6.28 - T Seth Byrnes - More depth at the tackle spot. can never have enough of that...Blues at dash and agility, decent bars for a late 6th round pick.
7.2 - TE B.J. Griffen - Needed a backup TE and I liked him. Was gonna take him earlier, but chose Byrnes.

1.10-Kerry Buckley-WR-Florida State- Buckley was our favorite WR on the board, and we thought he would be gone by this pick. When he fell in our laps the choice was fairly easy. His ability to get downfield and make a short gain into something more is something we're always after in our WRs.
1.19-Eric Cassidy-WR-ECU- Cassidy was a guy we thought would be long gone by this pick as well, as we figured him to be a top 10 talent. He should start opposite Buckley as soon as next year to give us a strong young tandem to build around. We had other guys we really wanted here, but to pass up on a second star WR this late in the round we felt would be foolish given our situation.
2.11-Heath Banks-WLB-SDSU-Banks was our third choice only because FB Sailer was picked shortly before our choice came up. He will be a valuable asset, however, given that we've needed a pass rushing threat at the WLB spot for a few years now.
2.21-Dusty Wetnight-T-Colorado State- Wetnight had very impressive agility numbers, enough to make us feel very comfortable with the bars he shows. He should be a fine pass blocker and has the ability to be solid moving the pile as well. Our O-line has aged pretty rapidly the past 2 seasons and should enable us to start Dusty right away.
2.22-Karl Schmitt-CB-Notre Dame- We think Schmitt is probably a little overrated, but has enough in the way of agility and overall skill set to make us think he's not far off the talent he appears to have at first glance. He'll be a nice addition to a basically empty depth chart at the CB spot.
3.10-Bobby Berry-G-Penn State- Berry is clearly an underrated blocker and we needed a sure fire future starter at G, so he fills that role nicely. He will probably be our primary backup this season if he doesnt start, but its likely he plays as much as the starters.
3.20-Alan Broughton-CB-Oklahoma- Broughton has a good deal of speed and is a special teams ace, so he came as a double addition here. We don't expect him to pick a lot of balls off, but he should be a decent nickel and solid gunner.
3.22-Jim Hitchcock-DE/DT-Purdue- Hitchcock comes highly recommended by our scout, and may make a switch inside to pair with incumbent DT Tito Roby in our goalline D package. Chances are good however that he plays backup at all DL spots this season to get some experience before we decide what to do for sure.
4.11-Roman Mills-WR-Oregon- Mills looks like the type who performs when he is thrown the ball, but is generally too sloppy to get that many opportunities. He also has return skills which we needed, and should be our PR/KR this year, possibly a future 3 or more likely 4 at WR.
5.10-Rusty Tubbs-CB-Brigham Young- Tubbs might have the 2nd CB spot in a couple seasons if he works out. His combines and bars seem feasible, and he has some ok hands to make a play or two. We'll see how he does in camp compared to his CB brethren, but expect he should be in heavy rotation.
6.11-Lee Nichols-RB-Rutgers- Nichols looks to have some ok skill in the right places, and this late, he seems like a decent value. He'll likely pair with Graham and Henry as a sort of 3-pronged attack in our backfield.
7.10-Johnny Padron-S-Arkansas- Padron actually has the combines to make us think he may be the best CB we drafted after he switches. We think he was excellent value this late.
We just missed on a few guys this draft that would have made it spectacular in terms of value. FB Sailer (who we would have converted to RB) WR Grier, S Hartwig, C Boticario (who we tried to trade up for but didnt offer nearly as much).. With those 4 we would have considered this draft a resounding success. As it is, we got great value early and late, but we feel like our mid rounders are all toss ups for the most part.
Looking forward to the unveiling, hoping the holidays dont last too long. :)

My 2nd draft in the FOFL will hopefully be a good improvement over the first, in which I neglected to scout on time, missed my first pick, drafted a bunch of random dudes and failed to sign nearly all of them for a variety of reasons, including underwhelming first rounder NT Don Ilardi, who signed halfway through the season. Although last year's 3rd round pick, RT Tyrus Hutton, was a resounding "HIT."
This year, armed with more experience and a teensy bit more knowledge, Utah expects to actually sign its draft picks, and has produced a draft with the theme: "Trade down, then miss on guys." This thread and the draft chat contain a litany of could-have-been-Bee's, including a couple (S George Harper and WR Adrian Greer) whom we saw come off the board the pick before we were waiting to snatch them up.
1.17 DE Tito Terrell, Iowa State - what?! he's from ISU? We thought he was from USC from watching his game film. Oops, need to pay more attention...he should be a good one. Make up for the downer of a DL pick last year.
3.4 CB Jesse Barringer, UTEP - Ouch. Adrian Grier was going to be Utah's future at WR; thanks Dakota. With Grier gone, we go after a VU corner with a solid combine to go with promising bars.
4.17 OT Michael Huffman, Missouri - What's with these picks from lower-tier Big 12 North schools, eh? A developmental reach, but he's underrated, athletic, and a strong blocker. Tyrus Hutton 2? We hope so.
4.32 WR Jason Durham, Buffalo - This is what happens when teams like Dakota take your picks just before you can get to them. You go after some random guy in later rounds you don't know much about, but he's a small speedster who can maybe stretch the field, as well as return kicks for us.
5.16 DT Emmanuel Snyder, NC State - A tough call as we were tempted to try to move further down...but this late in the draft, eventually decided to just stay put and take the guys we felt more strongly about. A vicious hitter, Snyder could be on his way to pushing one of our other DTs out...or he could get cut before the preseason.
5.17 MLB Tommie Nowakowski, Virginia - A pick at a potential need position because we didn't see any QBs on our list that were 5th round grade...d'oh. We'll see if he can displace an aging roster-filler veteran.
6.18 C Mack Mascorella, Arkansas - a bit of a project pick, not very developed but a physically talented specimen. We take a shot to see if he can show enough TC development to stick as a #2 C. If he does, we'll get some needed flexibility along the OL.
7.17 QB Tracy Benton, KSU - Ahh, yet another lower Big 12 North school draft choice. Benton came into the fold before we realized we missed on the available QB we really wanted and was just who we thought was the best of the rest of the field. Maybe he'll give us something; that would be a bonus at this juncture.
7.27 TE Nate Barlow, Eastern Kentucky - I slept in and missed this pick, but got my top priority guy. Good thing, too, because the next guys on the list were WAY out there. 3 blues and a green; 5 picks away from irrelevancy, we'll take it. With his BP, maybe he'll develop into a receiving threat at TE; if not, we don't really have a need there anyway.
And finally, the Tenth Man in our haul...
Utah's brass kept two lists of wanted QBs and completely missed some names it was high on in the 5th round; only in the 7th round did it look back and realize "Hey, Leo Snyder. We really wanted that guy." Before they could get cold feet, they offered a steep 4-pick price to recoup a Pick That Should Have Been. With that kind of an offer, why didn't we get a proven veteran? Sheesh, heck if I know anymore.
6.1 QB Leo Snyder (WAS) - we really need a QB. We let Tim Hein go because we couldn't afford both him and Foy, and then Foy gets snatched away. Passable combine, maybe a high sense rush with decent long passing, and a deep/read pair. Hopefully I'm reading this correctly...I paid a high price to be able to find out.Last edited by Aston; 12-25-2009, 09:54 AM.Float likeabutterflysting likeabee.

my 2nd draft as well i think mision accomplished. the theme seems to be physicality. guys who not only "have the bars" but physically talented. got a lot more blue scores. i felt and it seemed to bear out this was a deep draft with lots of quality guys but not many superstars. i drafted 6 guys that could start right away on most teams and a all-pro caliber punter. Very good draft
2.17 Dave "who's your" Hadad QB Souith Carolina - big strong armed kid (6'2 222 13 reps) LOVES to go deep, proto typical pocket passer, nice way to say he slow (5.03 40 time), He doesnt have to start right away so hell have some time to learn the playbook, but hes in good shap already having 11 formations under his belt.
3.16 Craig Dudley WR W Virgina State - another physical specimen (6'1 211 14 reps 7 sec cone drill) good bars especially over the middle, will be a great slot guy taking some of the work off of Bo Diddley, yet.physical enough to get off the line against bump and run. he will be in the mix to replace Stewart when he retires in the next year or 2
3.18 Rex Wynn DT UConn - traded up to get him, a bit undersized but a great motor in the mold of Warren Sapp type of DT. not overly physical but great technique and speed Sub 5 second 40 time good play recognition. should be able to add some pounds and hopefully fill the void left by the pre draft trade of Donnie Creekmore
4.18 Wes Gepetto S Washinton State - another physical guy (6'0 206 19 reps) and a sure tackler, should have no problem playing in the box or covering TE's. With a current al pro at S he wont be asked to start right away but he will be a definate contributor on speacail teams and in the nickle and dime packages
4.19 Lamont Craig OLB Yale - bit of a reach here possibly but hey speed kills one of the fastest LB in the draft a sure tackler and great in zone coverage a prototypical cover 2 OLB. needs some time to develop but will be great on special teams
6.19 Junior Hines WR Washington State - dfinately a slot guy short (5'10) but fast (4.47) good north/south speed not much "shake", has good hands. i predict hell be a favoriate of Carl Reese on 3rd down. great value in the 6th round and upgrade to the WR corps.
6.20 Rick Armstrong C Hawaii - undersized (6'2 277) but scrappy tough guy good football IQ (blue Solecismic Score) not a need but couldnt pass up a guy this good this late. he give me all kinds of options, play him at center and slide everyone left or right or bulk him up and put him at G. another value pick
7.18 Randy Sena P S.D. State - at 6'3 229 lbs this guy could be playing LB, some will question the wisdom of drafting a Punter but hes a pretty good athalete at his postion and he WILL help the defense giving them better field postion. with the 2 ties i had last year i cant help but think improved special teams play could make the difference
