    2-23 Ian Oliver RB

Could be a reach, We are hurting at RB depth with an aging Jack Taylor

    4-21 Howie Staley FB

Gowdoz would not sign at a respectable salary and was considered gone. Staley should be a workhorse for years.

    6-23 K.C.Cantrall DE

We think this to be a steal

    7-22 Ralph Becker K

Another case where we felt the incumbent wanted more than we were willing to pay. Giving us a 7th round pick that won't be a waste.

    Portland Phantoms....early thoughts.

    Bryant Davis - DE - 1.11
I was shocked to see Davis fall to #10 and I tried to trade up. Ended up trading to #11 to nab him. Good bars, great combine, I think I landed a stud.

    Buddy Dahl - OT - 2.14
Probably the selection I am least excited about. He looks like more of a guard than a tackle, which is what I need, but I'm skeptical. He had an OK combine and has good bars, but I think he would have lasted.

    Ian Subramanian - OLB - 3.22
His bars and combine suggest he can rush the passer. I run a 4-3 and have nothing at WLB or SLB.

    Leon Gagne - S - 4.18
Super fast and undersized. Will be moved to corner where I am desperate for players.

    Victor Dawson - CB - 4.24
    Need pick.

    Conrad Tate - RB - 5.17
Decent runner who doesn't provide much in terms of catching the football. Fast.

    Marcus Rasmussen - WR - 5.24
A project but I think he could develop into a solid #3 or #4 WR.

    Bernie Maloney - OT - 7.15
Shocked this guy was available in the 7th. Had him on my priority list since the 3rd. Probably means he sucks.

      Phoenix Riders

Phoenix Riders.....my first draft i think i did good, hope i did good

1.21 Rb Will Shumway seemed like the safest pick at RB not spectacular but looks like hes can be a solid 1,200yd 10 TD producer. also great hands

3.22 OLB Tyrus Kincaid this was a bit of a reach but scouts said he has lots of upside. he can play SAM or WILL good bars great speed. big risk reward guy

4.22 RB Randall Lacasse i was in love with this guy speed speed speed more of a between the tackles kind of guy. i hope my thunder lighting thing works

5.21 ILB Thurman Garrett big backup supposedly with big upside. we shall see

6.20 Brent Hastings DT another reach (can you reach in the 6th round?) a little smallish good bars great guy to rotate in on the front 4. on paper looks like a Warren Sapp kind of guy. he is fro the "U" after all

7.23 Raymond Humphries T a position i neglected hopefully hell be a capable backup

      a very defensive draft.

year 1 chapter 1 in the books.

Well, UTA came in practically unprepared for this draft, wanted several trades into next year's, but I missed my first pick while on a plane ride...then decided to go after a guy with the 3rd rounder before trying but being unable to trade the final picks. I did a bit of research for these though, so we'll see if that paid off.

Overall, an interesting haul. Don't know what to expect.

1.17 DT Don Ilardi, Arizona State, 6'3 305 - Here's a guy with some good measurables that we hope will be able to fill in a glaring need for us on the D-line.

3.15 OT Tyrus Hutton, Ole Miss, 6'4 300 - A strong, athletic lineman; we want to inject some talent and youth into our offensive trenches and hope that Hutton can be that guy.

4.14 WR Bernie Burke, Vanderbilt, 5'11 191 - A bit of an interesting pick; not a very highly regarded or well-known player (coming out of Vandy), although our scouts fell in love with him. A mid-round pick, we wanted to nab the guy to start the youth movement in our receiving corps early rather than waiting and then missing out. WR is not a huge current need, however, and I would have gone with a bruising, skilled runner like Thomas Gomez out of Texas Tech if he hadn't gone in I think the late 3rd.

5.19 CB Bryant Somers, Texas, 5'10 179 - Another dart here, although he's a big-school prospect whose college productivity and some flashed workout potential led us to take the shot.

6.18 OG Cory Bensen, Virginia, 6'3 291 - A very, very late emerging need as we unexpectedly lost our highly rated starting left guard in free agency...we think we may have some hidden talent here, but if Bensen doesn't turn out to be a gem, it's back to the FA market...

7.17 FB Lamar Wilcox, USC, 6'2 277 - A huge man at FB. We signed a guy in FA but we obviously want to create some competition for him, and took a fullback with our last pick. We want a tenacious, physical blocker and with this guy's size and strength, he could well win the FB job this year. In the end we went with him over a skill position gamble because the likelihood of this paying off was higher, and right now we need that.

My first live FOF draft. I was never any good at this in-game...hopefully I learned a few things from you guys :)

            1.11 - Bryant Davis - DE - (38/54)
A little lower than I had expected but I am predicting his potential to rise. The player he will battle the starting spot for is just 46/46.

            2.14 - Buddy Dahl - OT - (20/69)

Higher than expected. Predict his potential will drop. If moved to guard, his position battle will be against a 38/38.

            3.22 - Ian Subramanian - OLB - (19/35)
Never been real good at drafting OLBs. Subramanian looks no different.

            4.18 - Leon Gagne - S - (14/32)

The game does not agree that he will fit better at corner back. He loses 10 in potential. So, hopefully he is a riser or might be an early cut.

            4.24 - Victor Dawson - CB - (16/42)
Very raw but I think he rises in camp. Won't need to play much right away.

            5.17 - Conrad Tate - RB - (26/31)
If he doesn't rise he will likely be cut as well. I have four RBs in camp right now that I really like.

            5.24 - Marcus Rasmussen - WR - (19/42)

If he progresses well he could see time at the #4 WR spot.

            7.15 - Bernie Maloney - OT - (19/37)
If he develops to a 37, it is a solid pick. Will likely make team.

With that offer you have out to that undrafted rookie RB, I can see why.

                  Haha. I saw that.

I think I offered two years at the minimum....and Tom offered three years and his soul.

Well, to each his own. Really shoulda drafted him >.<

Conclusion: UTA does not know how to draft.

                      Well, we drafted two studs:

1(1): FL Shannon Rudzinski (58/81-->64/80): Crazy, insane combines. Looks like a rare "9" player. I suspect he'll creep into the upper 80s/low 90s.
2(24): QB Bobby Tubbs (16/45-->21/54): I thought he was going to be really good, but it looks like he's better than I'd guessed. I'm thinking mid 70s.
6(24): RCB Cornell Kaplan (18/38-->21/35): Pretty sure this was an auto-pick late in the draft. He won't stick long-term.
7(24): RB Bert Haberman (29/38-->30/38): Just a roster filler.

Overall, drafting our next QB/WR combo is really, really nice.

Tubbs started out preseason looking pretty darned good:

Not gonna lie, but I had no idea OVR and potential changed that much, even after playing through maybe 10+ seasons in SP (mind you, not carefully, just messing around)

It's certainly a big departure from BBCF.

I saw a lot of my drafted players were really, really low OVR so I didn't bother to sign them before training camp; mistake probably...what kind of affect does this have on them? And wouldn't you know it, my 7th round FB turned out to be better than the one MattG drafted (at least, indications so far are as such. OVR+4 after TC). I'm glad I made two sensible picks in all that mess.

I've been playing MP for awhile, actually won a championship in another league, but have a lot to learn myself. I passed on Tubbs, drafted a guy instead who will probably end up in the 50's, setting a rebuilding process back a year.

this gave me a great understanding in what to expect after the first training camp. its written by our resident guru

Wow, so based on that formula I can expect Jim Springer, the ILB I drafted in the 7th round, to end up somewhere in the mid 60's? I'd be very happy with that.
