  • 2013 SUGGESTED NEW RULES

    1) Limit the maximum time limit for autopick to 10 minutes: During the draft, I noticed that several owners turned their autopick on but placed a timer of 60-90 minutes (sometimes more) on their pick. This unnecessarily delayed the draft on several occasions. This seems like a small change but it could help with the length of the draft.

    2) Mandatory owner participation: We tried this last year and it failed but im going to give it another shot. Just like every season, we had a core group of about 15 owners who consitently posted comments and articles about their team and 15-17 owners who rarely posted at all. We had two owners who have only posted twice between the 2012 draft and this year's draft. An owner's responsibility is not solely to submit sims. Its to partcipate in the league in other ways. I'm not asking for owners to write articles about their team (It would be nice if they did) but I do expect them to show that they are actively aware of their team.

My proposal is to require each owner to post about their team twice a month during the regular season. It can be in their own thread, in the game results thread or in any other thread. I know this will lead to some situations where an owner just will put "Edgar Cote is Good" but thats better than nothing. Also this will help me be aware of whether an owner is active or not.

Let mw know your thoughts or if there are any other suggested rules.

    1) No problem with a limit on the autopick but I would suggest a limit of 20 minutes rather than 10. I know it is frustrating for those who are really on top of the draft, but especially since round 1 tends to be on a weekend those of us who are juggling this around family obligations might find 10 minutes a bit short.

    2) I'm not the most vocal owner out there and I really don't have a lot to say during the season......frankly the times I enjoy best are the off-season stuff. That said, it's your league -- if you want to be able to keep track of activity by posts that's cool.

especially if you are rebuilding. Posting when you go 3-13 becomes redundant.
      "Look, I lost again"

But, I dont mind if you want to require us to post. I'm enjoying this league and will follow the rules.

        .

Not if you talk about the game that you just watched. Something as simple as " Another loss but my rookie QB played great"

Ah, that's my problem -- I rarely watch the Solevision.

              1. Yes. If you're gonna have mandatories (like #2 below), then how about requiring owners to list players in their draft queue and putting them on auto pick if they're not around. I'm not sure exactly how to do it, but I think you get my drift.

              2. I'm not big on posting. However, I know you're after participation in the forums so I understand where you're coming from. I think another accurate gauge of participation is whether an owner uploads files at each stage. I realize some owners are involved but don't upload as much as others, but uploading files does indicate participation.

                I'm iffy on #1, but I like #2.

I personally did set an auto draft timer of about 20, or 30 minutes for almost every pick. I LOVE that feature. I try to put that on for every pick. We all know that you have a better feel about your picks if it isn't just auto'd from your list. Different players go off the board, runs on certain positions happen, so you like to make sure you are taking the right guy in the right spot. I would set it for 20-30 mins, so it gives me a little bit of a window to pop in, and make the "right" selection. Instead of just leaving it on full auto or off completely. At most it is adding an extra 30 mins, but then the pick goes off anyways.

I like #1 but think it should be 30 minutes max.

                  I like #2 as well.

                    Works for me.

This sounds good in an ideal world where we can replace non-participating owners with someone else, but right now there are more FOF MP leagues than there are owners to fill them. The league is better off with someone paying some attention and sending in exports than having teams on AI control.

One thing that I do to check active owners is just put the exports into two folders. One is the normal \import folder. The other is \import\importhistory. I just overwrite what's already there. So periodically I just look in that folder and sort by date, and I can see immediately if someone hasn't exported in a while, and check in with themL

This was as of Wednesday morning at 6:30 am, so I can see immediately that there's only one owner that I need to be remotely worried about.

I agree with the rules, I don't have any problem posting and whatnot, and the draft has always been something I can be flexible with because i work overnight shifts, so I don't miss much. I usually leave it on auto and just adjust my list every hour or two depending on what has transpired.

Ben, if I could ask.. You need a replacement for that owner? Also, if so, how bad a shape is that team in? I love projects.

Nah. It's MalcPow. He's just really busy these days. But if you're interested in a WOOF team the next time there's an opening, let me know.

Will changing the autopick to 10 minutes result in a faster draft or just fewer owners actually using it? If I do not use the autopick then what happens? The logical choice to me would be to limit autopick to the maximum allowable time limit for the draft (or draft round). I can't recall if there were round time limits...I'm over 40 now.

Mostly neutral on rule #2. If I had to vote one way or the other, I'd vote no. If the consequence is more AI run teams then I don't want it. Frankly, I tend to enjoy and look forward to the competition more than the discussion. In this league, I walked into a bottom quartile roster and I'd rather spend my limited time scheming to take over the division. One of my biggest rivals in another league rarely posts but is a dedicated owner who seems to enjoy the game quite a bit. In fact, when he does post it's akin to seeing bigfoot...a sighting. Digressing a bit, I use sightings as good reasons to celebrate and pour myself a nice, tall cocktail.
