  • Week 11: Team Updates (How Is Your Team Doing?)

10 weeks in and the Gaels are 7-1-1. I like where we are right now but I cant help but think that we are a step below Yuma and Columbus when it comes to talent. We have a few stiff tests left this year with Pearl Harbor, Utah and Yuma so it will be interesting to see if we can continue our winning ways.

10 weeks in and the Phantoms are 4-5. In 2011 the Phantoms finished 3-13. In 2010, 2-14. So, even if the Phantoms lose out, we have already improved in the win column. I made a couple of big off-season moves that are paying off:

-I sent a 2nd round pick to Utah for 54/54 RB John Chart. In three seasons with the Bees, Chart rushed for 2,300 yards at a 3.6 ypc. So far in nine games, Chart has rushed for 694 yards at 4.5 ypc, and six touchdowns. He also has 17 catches for 96 yards. Easily the best rushing seasons since 2006, with Wally Garner.

-I spent the 3rd overall pick on QB Eddie Castillo out of Portland State. In nine games, eight starts, Castillo has thrown for 1,254 yards, 61.3% completion and a 72.2 QB rating. Already a huge improvement over the incumbent starter, Henry Andrews, who since 2009 where he had a 91.7 rating, has completely regressed. 65.8 in 2010, 67.2 in 2011, and 61.3 in week one this season. The offense is currently heavy-run based, but as Castillo continues to develop the offense will flourish.

-This move was made last year, but it is paying huge dividends now. The first pick in the 2011 draft was RT Orlando Bell. A lot of teams thought the selection would of been better served in another direction. His rookie season was just so-so, but in 2012, Bell is having the best season of any offensive linemen in the OSFL. He has a season score of 468.3.

    ---

At 4-5, there is a slim playoff chance. If my team can stay healthy, I fully expect a 8-8 or 9-7 finish. Will that be enough? Maybe. But this team is very young. I need to make some changes to the defense in the off-season, but 2013 could be a great year.

After a horrible 0-2 start, We have reeled off 7 straight wins and now lead the division.
QB Carl Reese is having a bit of an interception issue, but makes big plays to offset that. He improves weekly. While his rating is only at 85.6 he has 2355 yards passing and 19 TDs.
Sammy Slade continues his stellar career. He has 59 catches for 891 yards and 5 TDs.
Our running game, which was thought to be in shambles after Fernando Perkins was let go, has been good. A two headed monster with Hugh Samuel and Al Castellanos sharing time. Together they have 188 carries for 857 yards and 7 TDs. Which is comparable to what Perkins is doing this season.
Our defense is playing well. One of the best pass defenses in the league.

Im real happy with how the season has turned around. We are still one of the best in the league (despite what the Gaels management says ). A deep playoff run is expected.

Well, the young Irish are struggling, but I see positive signs. I'm excited about Canada, but the other young rookie running back, free agent find from Kansas, oldwhat'shisname, has impressed as the second option.

Wins. ..I think they'll come with some seasoning.

We've played well in every game BUT the Camden blowout. Camden is a very very hot team right now and will be a factor in our division race. When a team is that hot, just say en fuego and pass the tequila.

We've won 2 in a row which we should have lost. 4-5 looks better than 2-7...especially in our weak division this year.

I'm experimenting with different offensive strategies the last few weeks as well...and they aren't working out too well. Not really sure if this team has it in them to make a run and go to the playoffs.

I hate my season... started slow... got hot... one key injury (Patrick) and we've gone in the crapper. No way we should have lost to Waco... and it wasn't even close.

Love Cris Gardner. Love my young OLine. Still at least 2 significant pieces away (LB & WR)

6-3 Kind of where I thought we would be. I hope our defense can play a little better down the stretch to give Pipkin some help though. We still have Ohio Valley left twice and Punx once more. Still many games left to go till the AC East is decided.

Still have a decent shot of getting the division but we don't have enough to challenge for a title anymore. Skill positions need rebuilding.

7-2 and in control of the AC North. We beat Utah and Lake County, but came up a bit short to Phoenix and would like another crack at them.

We have the offensive fire power to make a run in the playoffs. It's just a matter of whether or not we can make the necessary stops on defense.
