  • 2011 Week 6 OSFL Wrap-up

    Week Six

    Top Five

    1. Baltimore Bulls (6-0) - W 34-10 over San Fransisco Bayhawks - LW #2
The only undefeated team left! Very impressive win over San Fransisco. The defense forced four turnovers and the offense was lead by WR Bob Franklin who had 9 catches, 160 yards and two touchdowns. Next week they host the (4-1) Camden Cutters. They have not lost since Week Two, so this should be a good match-up. If this is truly the leagues best team, they should beat Camden.

    2. Phoenix Riders (5-1) - L 24-27 to Lake County Xtreme - LW #1
Not a shocking loss. The defending champs take care of business when they are at home. Riders brand new starting QB Carl Reese throws two interceptions in a game where the offense didn't start clicking until it was too late. The Riders also lost starting LG Otis Fedolfi for the next few weeks. He leads the team in key run blocks. Next week they are on the road against the (3-3) Phils of Punxsatawyney. The Riders will bounce back.

    3. Dakota Totems – (4-1) - W 48-24 over Chicago Reapers - LW#3
Route. Dakota lead 45-14 at one point. QB Roy Parrish was 24/26, 281 yards and two touchdowns. The Dakota Totems had nine drives in the game. TD, FG, TD, TD, Half, TD, TD, Missed FG, FG. Everyone!!! Dakota is really, really good! Next week they host the (4-2) Morgantown Maniacs.

    4. St. Paul Bandits (5-1) - W 20-14 over Charlotte Cougars/Knights – LW #4
I was expecting the Bandits to blowout Charlotte, so the 20-14 win is kind of a letdown. Charlotte scored with just under three minutes left, but couldn't comeback. RB Rob "The Diesel" Cote hyper extended his knee and will miss a few games. Including next weeks game against (3-3) Columbus Catfish. Don't be shocked if the Catfish steal one.

    5. Memphis Admirals (4-2) - W 31-23 over New Orleans Stingrays - LW NR
Last week I had the Stingrays #5, so what a better team to replace them than the Admirals? Memphis went on the road, and beat the Stingrays to take first place in the AC South. A game in which the Admirals trailed 23-17 late in the 4th quarter. A very impressive win for this team on the rise. Next week they travel to (4-2) Kalispel to face the Stags. If the Stags win, don't be shocked to see them in this spot next week.

    Bottom One
    1. Portland Phantoms - L 24-27 to Kalispel Stags
Back at the bottom spot? After an over-time loss to one of the leagues best teams? YES! Two minutes left in the 4th quarter, the Phantoms lead 21-17. Kalispel has the ball on the Portland-47, 1-and-10, and rookie FS Roy Koyberger intercepts the pass 12-yards down field. After picking up a first down, the Phantoms continued to run out the clock when rookie RB Kelvin Jarvis fumbles the ball on the Portland-38, where it is recovered by Kalispel. With 1:34 left in the game Stags QB Herb Nikolaus throws four straight times, including a 17-yard touchdown with 1:02 seconds left to take a 24-21 lead. After a 30-yard kickoff return, the Phantoms started from their very own 42-yard line and 46 seconds left. The Phantoms drive, kick a 44-yard game-tying field goal, and head to over-time. After each team had a possession, the Stags kicked a FG on their second opportunity for the win. If I had won, it would of put the Phantoms at 1-5, with the Stags, Bombers and Gladiators at 3-3. Instead, I am now 0-6, the Stags are 4-2, and the 3-3 Gladiators and Bombers play each other next week, so one team will be at 4-3. Ugh.

    Game of the Week
Wow. I was way off. The Bulls dominated the Bayhawks and proved they are the leagues best team.

    Player Spotlights
This weeks offensive spotlight is on Boston Fighting Irish QB Edgar Cote. The former #4 overall pick of the 2008 draft is finally coming into his own. After three seasons as the starting QB, his best season finishing with a 83.4 QB Rating, the veteran is having a career year. On Sunday he completed 26/30 for 307 yards and three touchdowns. His season rating now sits at 97.1.

This weeks defensive spotlight is on Anchorage Gladiators defense end Tito Garrison. In 2007 he had 15 sacks. In 2008 he had 16 sacks. In 2009 and 2010 combined, he had only 12.5. This season, through six games, he has five. This weekend he had three sacks, but also had six tackles, and four quarterback knockdowns. Too bad it wasn't enough as the Gladiators were upset by the Port City Steam.

    Extra Points
    1. Through six weeks there are two 0-6 teams and four 1-win teams. Parity?
    2. The (1-4) Pearl Harbor Defenders have only scored six less points than their opponents. The (3-3) Washington Bombers have been outscored by 32. The (4-2) San Fransisco Bayhawks have outscored their opponents by five. Take it for what it is worth.
    3. Come on Rays...make it a series!
    Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
    Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041
    Washington Bats - 1979-2013

    Nice writeup!

I won't be shocked if the Catfish take it either. Lately we've been sluggish. Galloway is usually good for 1 pick a game...he's the Romo of the OSFL, and losing Cote hurts our 1-2 running game a lot as well.

Tough loss. Reese was pretty good. Once he gets familiar with the WRs he should be great.
LAke County is a very good team.
      We'll be back to #1 soon :)

Thanks Pat, nice write. Yeah, I decided to give the punter the day off against the Reapers. That was a straight ass whoopin. We now lead the league in scoring offense at around 30 ppg. Also, Parrish is leading the league in Rating at 120ish. Beauty.
