  • OSFL Staff Draft Instructions

Welcome to the Live Staff Draft!! I applied the feedback received to improve the player's experience. This year I won't be running a midweek because we lost the staff screen last year. So you will have to check the Head Coach Round to see if one of your coordinators was taken or not. Also it will prevent for players to lose their option to apply for a new / upgraded Stadium.

    1) You can hire offensive / defensive coordinators or assistants from other teams as your Head Coaches.

From the help file: "Any unhired and non-retired coach or coordinator who can fill a particular position will be amenable. In addition, you may promote a staff member from your team or another team (assistant coaches can become coordinators or head coaches, coordinators may become head coaches) unless they were just re-signed to a contract. You may "poach" a staff member at the same level from another team if that team drafts at least four positions later and the staff member would be entering the last year of his contract."

    2) You HAVE TO SEND ME a PM with a list by preference of potential HC / OC / DC / Assistants / Strength Coaches. If you don't send the PM I will just skip your pic, I can't ask the AI to make the selection for you.

Please state Name of the team following of Staff Draft. p.e. Ohio River Staff Draft. That will make easy for me to allocate the PMs quickly.

The Staff Draft will be run in 2 consecutive days to give everyone time to correct their lists:
    1st day) Head Coach Round.
2nd day) OC / DC / AC / Strength Coaches Round.

*** If your Coordinator gets selected for a HC Position in another team, you can send a PM requesting the Coordinator that you want for the 2nd day.

After seeing the head coach round, I noticed a lot of the AI teams pick up new coaches. Would you allow us to write in *conditional* picks for ai teams coaches?

Conditional meaning if say, I think brooklyn(picking b4 me) as an AI team is going to pick up a new offensive coordinator. Can I put brooklyn's current offensive coordinator on my OC preference list even if his contract isn't expired?... And maybe limit it to only 2 or 3 conditional picks per coaching position and only from AI teams so the preference list doesn't get out of hand.

Being that New Orleans is in a bad way regarding finances, I'm kinda stuck at the back of the pack as far as the staff draft goes with no chance of moving up in the foreseeable future. I value coaches very highly in this game and I can't afford to let those coaches that would be an improvement to my team just slip into the abyss w/o a job while I pick up scraps.

This might be taking it too far but maybe player controlled teams can indicate before the draft their intentions of picking up new / firing current coaches, obviously not stating which ones theyre picking up but ya know. It would be more realistic imo bc I feel like good coaches are getting let go and even if we wanted to pick them up, we wouldn't know; they'd be out of a job and the other GM's would miss out on an opportunity to bag an improved coach. I know beggars cant be choosers so I understand if what im asking for is too much lol.

You can send me as many names as you want listed from top to bottom preference. I don't mind if you send me 3 or 60 names. Therefore you can put names of coaches that are employed at present just in case they are free when you are on the clock.

      I hope this helps.

so the staff draft isn't really a live draft then?

It is not like live, live, it will be impossible to get all the Owners together at the same time in here, and it would be a disadvantage for those who can't be present. So we though that this would be the best way to go, send lists with your preferences and I pick HC first, publishing all Round when is ready, then the rest of them.
To be fair nowadays there is a lot off managers who are happy with their coaches and not many new coaches are requested, so all the newbies get access to the best "fresh" set of Coaches available.

I'm not sure if I understood the rules (no native speaker here) 100%, so just to have it clarified for coaches who are already under contract:

                1) As HC I can hire ANY OC/DC (but not AC?), no matter of contract years and his team's position in the staff draft?

                2) As OC/DC/AC, I can only hire OC/DC/AC from other teams when they're in the last year of their contract AND the team is at least 4 positions below my own in the staff draft? (Meaning essentially, me as SF could only hire guys from Salt Lake City and Kalispel?)

                Thanks in advance.

Shark - By FOF rules an AC could be poached to be HC. Is there a league rule about not poaching AC to HC?

I'm confused about his first question... The rules state you can only poach another teams OC/DC/AC for your HC position if theyre in the last year of their contract and theyre atleast 4 picks below you in the staff draft. Youre telling him he can poach any OC/DC/AC regardless of years left on their contract.

That's not poaching, that's promoting isn't it? Poaching are lateral movements, from OC to OC.
