  • (Please Post your opinion) Off-Season Feedback

    My first off-season in charge is almost done, and I would like to hear some feedback about how you felt during it, and what things you guys would improve. I will use this feedback to modify a few things during the next off-season, so it will be more enjoyable for everyone.

    * The most important thing is to make everyone know, for the next Staff Draft, that a list MUST be sent by every GM with their preferences as the game doesn´t allow the AI to select a Coach for a Human team.
    Miami Sharks (BLB)
    * BLB Champions --> 2017, 2020.

    Ohio River Sharks (OSFL)
    * OSFL Bowl CHAMPION > 2036, 2047.

    The "live" staff draft is something that sets this league apart and is a very valuable addition in my opinion. I love it, it should stay. It's probably the single best thing you've done since taking the reins.

    I think late FA should be condensed, as was mentioned before in another thread. FA2 1-2 and FA2 3-4-5 seems like a solid setup.

    Similarly, the end of FA 1 could be quicker, but that's not really a major deal as long as the draft is still going on. The key for me is to keep things fluid, like a faucet flowing. You don't want the faucet on full blast, and you don't want to change the water pressure up and down too much, but you want a nice steady flow that keeps every sim interesting.

    I think I like where you were going with the custom draft class prior to this season, but I think the better idea if we want to add real names to the game is to generate a regular draft class and then change the names of those players to match real life players. This is something that is totally unnecessary, but if it is something the league is interested in I think the best way to go about it is to do it that way. You don't want to mess with ratings or anything, but changing names probably wouldn't be a big deal. I do think the league being entirely fictional makes "real" names seem like a bad fit, but I'd put it up to a vote if that is something you want to try to implement going forward.

    Right now, I think you're doing a great job running things. The only other thing I have to say is to keep up the good work. The league is slowly rejuvenating and returning to its former glory and I think your stewardship as Commissioner will help keep people around.

    If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

      I think that some of the later stages could be condensed more, as by the time you get to around FA8 or 9 there is no longer a ton of movement.

      I also think that the draft's start could be moved back a stage and sped up a little bit, but I also don't really mind the slower draft. Or rather, start it at the same time but give an additional stage for untimed picks. If there's an unquestioned top few picks they can go, but at the same time people would have the option to see a bit more of how the top-end free agents shake out before making their decision.

      Edit: Also a big big big fan of the live staff draft, I definitely want to keep doing that!

        I have enjoyed this offseason very much. Here is my few thoughts

        1. I am fine with the 14 hour clock also fine with making it shorter, I personally would no go under 10 hours due to those who might be at work and unable to see what is going on come their draft pick. A guy drafting say 5th and he really like's 3 guys and say he puts those 3 in priority list. If it comes his pick and those guys go 2,3,4. He may not like anyone good enough for a 5th and the other guys he does like he thinks he can get between 15- 20. So he want's to shop his pick see if he can move down some. My bet is this is what 14 hour clock was for those who work to give them time to see what is there come their pick and if anyone would be interested. So if shortened I think no lower than 10 hours.

        2. Love the live staff draft, but I will bet anything not all owners will submit a list. So would make this rule those who submit get first shot of coaches. Those don't will be assigned top remaining coach.

        3. Late FA I personally prefer the 3 days it just 1 extra day. However no big deal will be happy with what ever is decided.

        4. Why try to put real players in the game, we go thru like 3 seasons a year, so 2 seasons would have to be fictional.

        OK I am bad wording things hope that made sense.

          Regarding the staff draft. How do you handle when a team underperforms and the HC gets fired when their pick is up at 1.14 and no one has that HC in their list because they never expected that coach to be in the list of available coaches? Do we just move on and make that fired HC a coordinator/assistant and deal with him as a HC in future years?

              As far as I know, unless the human team hires another HC (which will have to be requested by a list) the one which is in the team doesn't get fired. The HC will be a FA and therefore the team left without when his contract rans out, which the human GM should be aware.

              AI teams are handled by the AI so they make their own moves.

                Off-season was great. If we combine FA10-12 and LFA into 2 SIMs that cuts down 2 days which I'd be for.
