  • Any chance of Live Staff Draft in 2046?

I'm looking fwd to my first full offseason with Memphis, so my apologies in advance if this has been discussed here before!

Is there any chance of doing a live staff draft (or something similar)?

I find coaches crucial in FOF8 (just like in real life, which adds to the complexity/immersion of the game), and my feeling is that a good coach can be the difference between 5-11 and 11-5. a good staff draft can have more impact than the players draft IMHO. Unfortunately, it's hard to tailor the in-game staff draft tool to pick who you want, and in fact I've never managed to do so. at least to me, having a staff draft would be a huge plus.

That said, I totally understand if the commissioner and others don't want to go in this direction! I appreciate that a live staff draft (or another procedure that does not use the in-game tool) is a heavy workload for the commissioner. so no worries if people are not keen on that.

    Thanks for opening this thread,

This is a long time discussion that we had in the past. As far as I am aware there is no utility developed to run a Staff Draft online. And itīs a feature that I would love to have in our league. I created a Thread in FOFC, so I can find out if a new utility came up lately, but I am not holding my breath in this one.

As I never ran a MP staff draft before I am not sure yet in how this is done. If is something that I can do manually, be sure that for 2047 we will try to make it as user specific as possible.

I think the same than you, Coaches are a VERY important part of the game and it definitely can change the way your team performs on the field.

While I am finding whether there is a new utility, or how the Staff Draft is run from the MP commisioner, I can give you my tip. Despite not being 100% effective I found is the best way to approach it.

1st) You must be a profitable franchise. To select the coach you want, or be in the best possible position, you must have a good position in the Draft. The franchise with the best profitability will select first, and so on.
2nd) Fill one / two positions every year. If you want a specific HC to run your Franchise, you can select "Very High" in Motivation, Discipline and Interviews, "High" in Player development, young players, scouting. I suggest you to try to fill in your HC and your Strength Coach the first year.
3rd) Fill the coordinators / assistants the next year, looking for very high PC, Scout and Interview bars, of course selecting the front / style that you want to run / best fit your players.

I hope this helps, feel free to chime in and continue the discussion.

See following link and read bottom what Matt has to say. This is why I'd love to see Jim make it available to do live staff drafts.

I don't know how hard it would be to program it where say for example HC you choose top coaches you want and they are ranked 1 - 32. Say there is only 8 coaches you like to replace one you have you enter those 8. Come your pick the highest rated coach remaining is chosen for your team. If none of the 8 remain your current coach stays long as his contract is good. If it isn't and the 8 have been picked you just get stuck with whoever.

I feel something like this which would allow players to have a say in their coach, would bring back a lot of players and boost sales of the game.

        I totally agree, irabowman.

the stuff that shark posted above is very helpful for any player! In my case, I know exactly what I want my coaches' relative bars to be in terms of Dev, Motivation, Discipline, play calling, Scout, and Interview -- I just find it very hard to get the coach closest to that I want with the MP in-game draft. I totally agree with Matt in the thread above.

Given that we love FOF8 and the in-game staff draft will not change anytime soon, it would be great to find alternative ways. Ben has programmed a great staff draft tool for his mp leagues (worked great for me in GML and CCFL), but I have no idea if that is available.

The closest thing to that was a live draft where GMs would send 3-5 coach names to the commissioner (this was in TFL with WilleB as commish). Certainly a lot of work for him, but I also got the coach that I wanted, so it worked great for me. this option would be a manual version of what irabowman suggests above, and 3-5 names makes the whole process more manageable. but of course, loads of work for the commish, so I'd totally understand if OSFL doesn't go in that direction.

Given that the easiest option is what WilleB does, I think I am inclined towards that option. As the Staff Draft approaches I will give precise instructions in how to set your lists. Will ask him how to complete the Draft manually by the Commish. Itīs something that I personally always wanted to have.

Thank you Thank you, I feel this will greatly improve the game. It will be up to us as GMs to realize that if we pick 20th chance are we need to look at middle range coaches those top stud coaches are not going to be there come pick 20..

I am fine with whatever is decided.
I would want to change my defensive coordinator to a 4-3 defense. I am not a big fan of the 3-4 Eagle.

thanks shark, this will make this league even better and more enjoyable, and we should make sure to advertise that we will have a live staff draft (to me, a great plus over other MP leagues that don't do that).

I think that by using name lists like in the TFL, situations like replacing a coach that you like a bit for another that you hate and had no idea on his existence will be avoided.
