  • PLEASE READ: POPULARITY LIST AND THE DRAFT

As some of you know there is an exploit in FOF related to the draft. The popularity value of a draftee is supposed to be hidden untill the player is drafted but using certain FOF applications will allow a person to see the value before the draft. If a player has over 80 in popularity, its pretty much guaranteed that the player will be a solid starter no matter what his combine or scouting bars are. This exploit will give owners familiar with the application a distinct advantage over owners who arent familar with it. Here is a link to the thread that explains the exploit much clearer:

I was going to put this up for a vote but I cant see any reason why we shouldnt make the popularity list public. So as commissioner, Ive decided to make the popularity list public from here on. Let me know if there are any questions or comments.

good decision -- I'm usually too lazy to use the program so this at least equalizes things - No wonder some people draft well all the time

I can say pretty definitively that this is not the reason. This correlation (exploit is definitely the wrong term there) was discovered only a few months ago. We've run either zero or one OSFL drafts since anyone at all knew about it, and I'm fairly certain that only one person (me) in this league knew about it before MalcPow posted it. Looking at my last OSFL draft, I picked up three guys, only one of whom had high popularity. Point being, if I knew about it at that point, it's fairly obvious that I didn't use it during the draft. ;)

And fwiw, it's not terribly difficult for someone who has played FOF a very long time to spot hidden gems in the draft without using popularity at all.

Just checked the draft dates here, and some date stamps and emails on my computer. The correlation was known by a small handful of people (again, fairly certain that I was the only one in this particular league who knew about it then) at the time of the most recent draft. The correlation was not known at the time of the draft before that. (It was discovered some time in the week of March. 17-21 this year.) It has long been known that Interrogator shows the personality ratings prior to the draft; it just never was thought that the data was useful enough to do anything about hiding it.

I knew about the popularity thing, or at least had heard some rumblings of it existing... but I didn't know how to find it... as you can see from my most recent draft... I definitely did not use this tell to help the team.

After a four win season... I wish I had.

Ah, that's right. I forgot that you were hanging around the FOxL Lounge fairly regularly in those days.

I was... that is, until people started hating my Lou Holtz stand up routine.
