  • Off-Season Wish Lists

What is on your teams off-season wish list? What are the key spots you need to improve?

    Portland Phantoms

    (1) WR - I could actually probably could use two here. My 2nd round pick Gene Burton, 35/43, looks like he could be a really good #3. Besides him, the only WR that will for sure be on the 2011 team is 2009 2nd round pick Donald Tatum, and he is only on the roster because he is a great PR/KR.

    (2) RB - While I don't think you have to have a stud RB to win in this league, you do need someone who is better than the guys I have. Both of my RBs are rated "45" by my scout, and while both are young, they would be solid as back-ups on good teams.

    (3) OL - I have one really good offensive linemen, LT Lance Clayton, who my scout has at "81." Besides him, my starting offensive line is rated "45-55". I probably need to acquire two OL better than the four average guys I am throwing out there.

    (4) FS - The only huge defensive need is at free-safety. After trading veteran Lenny Shaye to Gainesville, I went with Calvin Freeman "45" who is better suited as a backup.

    (5) LB - I have two legit starters, in ILB Mitch Berberich "56" and OLB Stephen Stephenson "60". Berberich can play any LB position at a high level, and Stephenson can play both OLB spots very well. I also have OLB CJ Melnick "49", and he is capable of playing every LB position at the same level. I have recently changed from 3-4 to a 4-3, and I would prefer to have Melnick as a backup.

    ---

I am going to have two top ten picks, right now, they would be #2 and #7. I also have $20,000,000 in cap room currently, and I expect to have even more in the off-season. On top of two 1st round picks, I have two 2nd round picks, two 3rd round picks, three 4th round picks, four 5th round picks, a 6th, and a 7th. That is 15 picks. My team is going to be extremely young in 2011, but that is OK, because I am clearly rebuilding.

My team only has five players rated higher than "60" so I will definitely be drafting the best overall talent and not by need. BUT, if I had a dream scenario for the draft, I hope the "best available players" when I pick are a WR and LB. Well all know WRs are very hard to come by, so I won't keep my fingers crossed.

            Motor City needs....

... Kenneth Clements to go ahead and retire... with either Winslet or Alexander taking a nice ratings boost and emerging as the #1 back. I can't imagine KC playing for another team... so I'd like to see him call it a career.

... I have to start replacing some of my old Oline with some younger bucks. Montes (5th Rounder) was a good late grab, but he's got some growing to do. I could lose 4 starters to retirement at anytime.

... WR help! Might be the toughest commodity to find in the OSFL... and I've never had even an above average one.

... Consistancy... don't know how to find it in the off-season, but it's lacking.

Our defense's age has finally caught up with us.

DE-Sam Barrett is still putting up monster numbers despite being in his 10th season. A lot has to do with the maturation of fellow DE, 3rd year end, Bennie Baxter out of California. We also have Oliver Sugita, a 2nd year man from USM. He shows promise but i doubt if he'll have the stamina or skill to be an every down replacement for Barrett.

G-We went round and round in negotiations with Billy Solomon, our 13 year veteran guard, and resident asshole. I ended up giving him a 2 year contract and I need to reload at guard, immediately.

DT-Desmond Humphrey, in his 10th year, has seen a drop-off in production this year. I think defensive tackle has always been our weakest area and I look to remedy this in the off-season.

CB-Richard Witt is in his 11th season and I wanted to keep him this last year mainly for mentoring purposes. However, injuries to both starting corners has Witt playing again and its obvious, he's not quite the defender he was 3 years ago.

S-I have no idea what I'm going to do. David Schwartz and Adrian Burhart are in their 11th and 9th years, respectively, and although they still are two of the best in the game, I don't have the best game plan for replacing that type of production. We do plan of making big moves in the off-season, so we'll just wait and see how things work out.

                Phoenix wishes for"

A CB--Korinek just cannot do it by himself. Another CB would make this a very frightening defense.

A couple LBs-- I dont like MLB Foug or SLB Stokes. I want to replace them and will tryt hard this offseason. See the beginnings of a trade block?

A RT-- T Austin Lyon is average. I have the makings of a great line and this is the weak link.

A K-- Kicker Cole Cooper is making 68.2% of his field goals and he is not being used to kickoff. His FG average is off almost 20 points from last season.

And to all that wish for a WR. I have rarely ever, in all my leagues had a great WR. This is why Slade came to Phoenix. I dont have to wish for that for another 4 seasons.

It's always interesting when you take over a team in the preseason.

I have no idea why anyone would build their OL to platoon.

My main problem though is defense. Too many guys with no endurance and not enough depth when they're taking yet another breather.

                  Shiba -- Richmond Rebels

Ruining teams since.....well, a long time ago.
