    Columbus 21, Portland 16

Not a bad game for the Phantoms. Columbus, (appeared), to play their starters, including #1 QB, the entire game. I lucked out, only had one injury, a backup rookie tackle who will be out for one week.

    The Good:
-My two runningbacks both averaged over 4.25 yards per carry, on 27 combined carries.
-Starting QB Henry Andrews was 8-12, and was not sacked.
-7th round rookie QB Howie Denemy was 15-26, for 183 yards, one TD, and a rushing TD. He also was leading the Phantoms down the field for a 4th quarter comeback, but ran out of time at the 30.
-Rookie punter Grady Gardner had 7 punts, 4 inside the 20, for a 39.1 net.

    The Bad:
-For some reason my starters, except QB Henry Andrews, played way more than I expected. A lot of young guys didn't get their reps.
    -One injury
    -We lost
-The starting defense gave up a first QB touchdown on a 9 play 78 yard drive

    The Amazing:
-On his first play on the field, rookie QB Howie Denemy went under center on first and 10 on the 37 yard line. It is a pass play, and after going through his reads, he decides to run. Well, he ended up running 37 yards for Portland's first touchdown! I guess his 4.53 40-yard-dash was legit.

Two picks for 2009 1st Round pick Nicky Cortez...

KC still has life in his legs...

      No injuries....

More than I could have hoped for.

Two games, Two losses, Zero touchdowns. Our defense is going to be great once again but our offense is horrible. I wish I could hire a new offensive coordinator in season.

I like my new Defensive line and DE Brian Roset has 5 sacks in 2 games. Hopefully my QB can get a clue.

Solid play from Pearl Harbor to open up the preseason.

No injuries and a few players gained some experience... can't complain about that!

Nori played well at home today in some fairly bad weather. He went 12/16 for 90 yards and a TD. He also had 3 passes dropped and looked pretty comfortable with the vanilla gameplan.

Look for us to open it up a little more as we travel to Boston. Nori will have to deal with a lot of ticket requests from friends and family as they are nearby in PA. Hopefully this doesn't affect his performance much.

My game is still playing, but I see the first thing I need to do is get rid of some nicknames.

Motor City is definately going back to what made them the AC East Champs in back-to-back seasons. Pounding the Rock. I think I'm finally dialing in a gameplan that works. Still preseason... one game... but you have to like:

Success running the ball is going to make or break this team.

                          Rookie Report:

Jackie Patrick (1.10) - Had a couple QB hurries... but didn't show up much on the scoresheet

Graham "Cracker" Griffith (2.9) - Played really well for his first action... 3 tackles.. 2 assists... 2 passes defensed

Nate Ackerman (3.8) - 1 tackle - No passes caught against

Lester Winslett (4.12) - See above. Ran really well... showed big play potential

Brandon Montes (5.11) - Played only 13 plays and allowed two sacks
                          The Great One!

Update on how my rookies did...

1.21: QB-Hunter McGarrahan: 5-9, 39 yards 1INT. McGarrahan did fine for what we were asking for. Most of his incompletitions and his INT came with under 2 minutes left... so they were all long bombs.

3.14: TE-Brent Bakic: 1 catch, 9 yards. 0-1 on KRB. Not much to say... We ran a ton, so he wasn't going to get a lot of chances to make any catches.

3.23: LG Rod Fisk: 1-7 on KRB. Had a ton of chances... still really raw, so hopefully with some seasoning he can improve on that number.

4.4: RT Brad Linquist: 3-5 on KRB. Solid debut. Hopefully in a year or two, he'll be able to step in at T.

4.13: FS Jumbo Zereoue: 6 tackles, 3 assisted tackles. 3 passes caught, 2 defended. Pretty busy day for Mr. Zereoue.

4.22: WR Bryant Roesler: 1 catch for 20 yards. We didn't draft him for receiving though. 1PR-1 yard, 2KR-28 yards. Need more from Roesler in the return game.

5.5: LE Rufus Valcarcel: Didn't register any defensive stats. Played 8 plays on ST with no tackles.

7.5: Wilfred McCormick: 27-122. Very surprising debut. Also made 1 tackle in 22 ST plays. Had a pass thrown his way... but it was incomplete. Also had a fumble that we recovered... can't be having that.

Pretty solid debut for Pearl Harbor. Really happy with the 47-186 rushing stats. Not a ton of yards... but great ball control.

We played out of our minds, beating Kalispel 37-13. Newly converted CB Heath Dixon had two INTs. Madison played lights out in his short time in. FA RB Gene Mims, who we signed to start for us before drafting Thompson, goes nutty with 17 carries for 121. The rookies were... up and down. But I was really happy. Too bad preseason really does mean nothing, we'll be bums by the regular season again.

                              Rookie watch:
1.5 RB Sedrick Thompson: 14 carries, 33 yards, 1 TD. Never felt like he could really get going.
1.19 LT Shane Logan: Got abused, badly. 3 sacks allowed, 0 for 1 KRB. He did recover a fumble after he allowed a sack though. Then he screwed up his knee and is out for two weeks.
1.27 CB Ray Truchsess: Really happy. His coverage was nothing special in limited pass plays, but he had 6 solo tackles in his 18 run plays. His name came up a lot.
2.1 QB Tom Skeen: No QB controversy here yet. 5-8 for 38 yards and a TD. Didn't feel that good when I was watching.
2.6 FS Tommy McConnell: 1 INT, 6 tackles and 4 assts. He could make an impact right away.
2.19 WR Cory Bobro: Literally non-existant. He'll get the start next week to get some PT.
3.1 SLB Luther Abrams: 12 ST plays, nothing.
                              3.27 WR Clyde Hitchcock: 2 KR, 34.5 avg, 1 PR, 0 yds.
UDFA K J.C. Durham goes 3-3 on FGs, including an "impressive kick" of 50 yds. One more game close to that and he'll win the job over vet Emmitt Thomason.

                              Other players of interest:
QB Madison goes 4-6 for 83 yards and two TDs. No stupid throws. Good news.
Last years first round pick DE Joe Mallow gets beastly with 4 tackles, 2 assts, and 2 sacks. Mentor DE Paul Reid one-ups him with Player of the Game honors and 3 sacks.
Quickly becoming my favorite player, ILB Damon Levine has 8 tackles and 1.5 sacks. The former fourth round pick finished second in ROY voting last year and will play MLB in our switch to the 4-3.

Of course, all of this came against Kalispel's B+ squad, so I shouldn't get too excited yet.

Hey Tomr, how did you get it to play all three of your QBs?
