    Regarding #2

Question for all owners who disagree:

Is posting once every two weeks going to scare away owners? Think about it realistically. Thats asking owners to post once every four weeks of the season. At the least, thats asking an owner to post 6 times every season including the offseason. Also, I'm not asking for articles. Just a post about your team. It could be one sentence "Carl Reese had a great game." Just enough to let us know you are around and paying attention to your team.

I dont agree that good active owners never post. There are some that rarely post that are good owners but no good owners that NEVER post. Usually if an owner NEVER posts that means he isnt submitting sims wither.

I think to have #2 as a "rule" is where there is question. I think you set participation guidelines in terms of missed exports and things like that. Maybe even have almost the equivilent of random drug testing too... like 3 times a season you throw up a thread or a PM that simply says.... "everyone check in and say you're alive"... just to check in. I think putting guidelines on the TYPE or paticipation outside of making exports and doing your due dilligence to be an active part on the league, might be too much.

Plus, one sentence or whatever.... it's still forced. And content for the sake of content DOES NOT WORK.

Wow... I swear I said that to someone on a different site a few months ago....

      Hmmmm.

      P.S. Great league! Great job!

So it makes this rule moot since you can expel him on those grounds.

I agree with Clay's idea for participation guidelines. I just think it will be tedious for you to check to see if everyone is posting. Exports are a better measure for participation and easier to track from my experience.

if i'm not mistaken, isn't it technically a BLB rule to post every couple of weeks?

Nope. Posting is one of the ways people can participate but in the end it comes down to the exports.

            The BLB Rule is:

            PARTICIPATION
            • Owners
              • Responsible for participating regularly. This includes exporting your team, posting in the forums, responding to trade offers, writing articles, etc.
              • Must participate in one of these ways, at least once per week. Owners should notify the Commissioner by posting in the Owners Forum if they won’t be able to do so.
              • Must participate in special league events such as the expansion draft, Awards voting, HOF voting, etc. Owners should notify the Commissioner if they won’t be able to do so.
              • Owners can be replaced at the discretion of the Commissioner if they fail to meet the participation requirements.

See I actually see it the other way. When I import the sims I dont even check which owner is submitting. I just import and run the sim. Quick and Easy. The way I used to keep track of an owner being active is if he's logged into the boards recently. I used to think if he's logged in that means he submitted a sim or is at least interested in his team. But I noticed that a few owners would visit the site but werent submitting sims or posting but I would think that they were active because it showed they were visiting the forums.

If there was a way that I could track when the last time an owner submitted a sim that would help but I dont see a way to do that in game.

With that said, I'll drop suggested change #2 since the league has spoken. A good amount of the owners are very active so this isnt an issue. I was hoping that this would encourage every owner to become more active. If people have suggestions on other ways to make that happen, im interested in hearing them.

i thought the draft was extremely fun, i thought the time limits were good... i just think people need to be more curtious, and if there not going to be around they should turn on there preference... i would of done that but i made sure when my pick came that i would be around..

i dont think people should have to blog if they dont want to, alot of people have alot other stuff to do, and there isnt alway alot of updates to write about.... i think a good idea would be for everyone to have there own team blog, and just write about injuryed players, roster changes, news etc.. that might be good idea.

i also dont really have an opinion on rather i want a league minimum or not.. i think its a good idea so people dont spend tons of money to get a stacked roster with no backups, but at the same time it could be there curse if players get hurt.

Thanks Ryan. To be clear, no one is asking anyone to write a blog. Just make a post or respond to a post in the forums once every two weeks.

Its not in game but you could look at the stage file tracker screen here on the forum right before you run the sim. Each time we could write down who's file is missing and keep track that way. Some sims aren't necessary for each owner but if somebody misses say more than 2 or 3 in a row, then we have a problem.

Thats kind of time consuming, to be honest. We run 4 sims a week and also I would say most owners here at one time or the other have missed 2 or 3 sims in a row. One of our most active owners missed 5 in a row once so I cant always use sims as a measurement of activity.

The easiest method would be to just take a screen cap of that page and go back to it for reference when you need to.

LOL...I understand. This posting rule is the only one I could think of. Just to clarify, this rule would have been more geared toward encouraging league discussion than as a tool for me to keep track of active owners. The keeping track owners thing would have been extra.

Hmm. Like I said before and I'll say it again, I don't expect everyone to write blogs or anything but I feel like for us to maintain that high participation factor, everyone should participate at the very least with conversation. Sending exports is cool and everything but if you are not going to interact with other players other than that, what's the real difference between participating in multiplayer vs. playing by yourself at home? From what I've seen the best and most active leagues make sure that everyone brings something to the table. I just think that people will be less likely to up and leave the league so easily, when they have invested just a little bit more time or substance to the league. Just my 2 cents.

Well, I think the BLB is a great guide. There are original Owners like Pawtucket who never post on the board... well... rarely... but he makes his exports, makes his votes, responds to PMs on trades... I mean... that's active... without ever really posting on the board. To me... nothing wrong with that.
