No, I think we filled needs, not necessarily got the best talent. I guess time will tell though.

I think Charlotte had the best draft, and Phoenix was money picking up Mahon at 15 when I thought he'd be a steal at #5!

So either one of those two would be my choice.
Don't be modest. Hunter, Fisk, Lindquist and Jumber were all good picks, imo.

      • i think it's easy to say i/charlotte had a good draft since we had 8 picks in the first 3 rounds. i think we got some good value and we filled some holes, but i don't want to pull a linty and award myself an a+.

on the other hand linty is right on, phoenix had a great draft with a lot of good value, even tarcone's so called reaches were pretty solid. i also think you cant forget about anchorage just for trading up to get nori. if he is developed at all they could be pretty sick this year.

        • In game Phoenix wins the best draft with an A+. South Maryland, the team auto drafted for, comes in second lol.

          • Here's my draft class with ratings added. Of course these ratings will be hurt and helped by TC. But to say I'm excited about the guys I drafted would be an understatement. The game gave us a C+ for our draft, but I thought it turned out better than that.

Obviously Linquist and Zereoue would be huge finds if they pan out. McGarrahan looks like the real deal.

            1.21 (21) - QB Hunter McGarrahan
            - 22/64
            3.14 (78) - TE Brant Bakic - 32/53

My scout has the top 5 as pretty average with the exception of Andrews.

                  • Portland draft:

                    1.25 (25) LDE Marvin Bullock - 26/48
                    2.21 (53) SE Gene Burton - 25/50
                    5.16 (144) LT Lester Conway - 20/40
                    5.22 (150) FS Al Endsley - 19/42
                    5.25 (153) RDE T.J. Manley - 18/46
                    6.7 (167) C Tyrone Santorum - 17/33
                    7.9 (201) QB Howie Denemy - 13/33
                    7.23 (215) FB D.J. Sera - 19/44
                    7.31 (223) P Grady Gardner - 35/53

Eh. Pre-camp. Take it for whatever it is worth.

Oh, and the guy everyone was so hard over, SE Marcus Melnick, he only debuted at 20/41. I would expect him, and hopefully a lot of my guys, to get ratings bumps come TC.

                      As for my draft:

1.28 WR Jerome Bennett- 30/51. Looks like he can come in and help as the #3 receiver and adds depth to the position. Hopefully he gets a TC bump.

2.29 WILB Bruce Nathan- 22/63. I'm trying to figure out what to do with him. I think he has the size/speed to move to the outside where I could use the help. Or I could keep him at MLB and groom him as Bauer's eventually successor.

3.28 DT Kyle Huntley- 27/50. We needed to add a solid player to our interior d-line, and Huntley looks like he can do that. Projects to be a pretty good run defender, with the ability to occasionally get to the QB.

4.29 C Nate Manning- 22/65. I thought he was a steal when we picked him, and his ratings don't disappoint. He'll probably be the backup this season, and then move into a starting role next year.

6.29 WLB Charles Alstott- 20/58. Another player added to our linebacking corps. Looks like he has decent potential and should compete for time as a rookie.

7.28 SLB Danny Roffmann- 18/43. Continues our trend of LBs in this draft. He's not quite as good as I was hoping, but he was a 7th rounder for a reason. Looks to be nothing more than a backup, if he sticks at all.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with our draft. Maybe not a bunch of guys with a huge instant impact, but some solid depth and a few guys who figure to be starters for us down the road.

In this league, I've had a player go up as much as 18 points after TC. That was Irv Archibald, a 6th round tackle. But I wouldn't put a lot of stock in Truchsess going up. My scout had him as VO.

                              • 1.1 QB Jay Nori (St. Francis) - 6'1", 210 lbs. Due to a trade last season with Pearl Harbor we ended up having the #5 overall pick to go along with our own first rounder late. With the awesome combine and very underrated opinion of our scouting staff we knew we had to make a move. Amongst QB's in the draft, Nori was number one in all combine categories and #2 in the 40. His agility score was only beaten by 3 RB's in the draft. Jay comes into the training camp listed at 24/65 and will start from day 1.

3.18 G Mel Luchey (Penn St.) - 6'2", 298 lbs. We really wanted an ILB going into the draft, but this class was just not deep at that position. We were hoping Bruce Nathan would be available around this pick, but Denver scooped him up in Rd. 2. Then we had our eyes on Patrick Coppa who almost made it to down to us. So when our pick came up we decided to look at the O-Line since it was another area of need and we went with very underrated Mel Luchey. He comes into training camp at 18/61. Mel will see most of his time as a backup this season with hopes to start in 2011 or 2012.

4.17 Bubba Goins (Duke) - 5'11", 196 lbs. Another pick where an ILB was not a good value pick. We decide to add more depth in our secondary as they are getting up there in age. Metz is in his 14th season and Robinson is entering his 10th. Entering camp rated 32/50, Bubba will definitely see the field as a backup and on special teams.

5.18 Daniel Kirchoff (Boston College) - 6'7", 331 lbs. Marcus Jacobs. We were starting to make his jersey and everything and then Las Vegas snatches him up at 5.17. Ouch!!! So we went to our backup plan like round 3. We need to protect our new franchise QB and Kirchoff will help once he develops. He enters camp rated 17/58, but we think his size will cause opposing DE's fits.

6.20 Rusty Dougherty (Penn St.) - 6'1", 214 lbs. Watching tapes of Luchey led us to notice Rusty. He has a very strong leg and we have never had an above average kicker up in Anchorage. We think we may have solved that with this pick. Rated 19/63 we might take some bumps this season, but in the long run this is a good pick.

7.19 Todd Wynn (Auburn) - 6'6", 334 lbs. With our final pick we decided to take a chance on Wynn. We are not sure if he will make the team, but with a good training camp Todd should be able to be our #4 DT. He is rated 14/38.
