          • Camden draft recap....

1.9 (9) - LT Leonard Reeves. After allowing a league-high 62 sacks last season, upgrading the OL was a priority heading into this draft. Enter Reeves, whom we felt was the best LT prospect in college football last season. He's expected to share time with 4th year man Rufus Ellison on the outside, with Ellison likely moving inside to guard when Reeves is able to handle a full-time gig at LT. Reeves and former first rounder Devin Lofton should give the Cutters bookend tackles for years to come.

2.25 (57) - MLB Chester Buckner. Rushing defense was another priority, as was linebacker as several of our standout linebackers head into the twilight of their careers. Bucker is a big boy, tipping the scales at 267 lbs, but our scouts were impressed by his coverage abilities as well as his ability to stuff the middle as we return to a 4-3 defense this season. He's raw and will need some development time, but he'll be learning from one of the best in Chris Harris, who is expected to see time at MLB this season to make room for 6th round surprise Moe Wolf.

3.12 (76) - SE Darrin Soule. We didn't head into this draft with receiver on our minds, but Soule was difficult to pass up in this spot. Our 3rd and 4th receivers see the field quite a lot in our pass-first offense and Soule's agility should make him a threat to turn short passes into big gains. He's very unpolished as well, but our scouts like his ceiling and he's expected to be no more than a 4th or 5th WR this season as he learns the position.

3.24 (88) - FS Otis McGee. Another value pick as we plan for the future, McGee's tremendous Solesmic score and good positional drill have us confident in his abilities to be a ballhawking, rangy free safety who will eventually compliment our stud strong safety Louie Green. McGee will enter the league as a backup to veteran Billy Joe Bontrager, but he will see time in nickel and dime coverages. Additionally, the injury histories of both Green and Bontrager led us to look for some depth at safety.

4.11 (107) - LDE Bryce Sivigny. With the retirement of longtime standout DE Harvey Strong, Sivigny was drafted for his ability to get to the QB. Sivigny is expected to immediately step into our deep defensive line rotation and provide some push from the outside as we attempt to prevent opposing defenses from keying on Ronald Fredrickson on the other side.

5.10 (138) - QB Daniel Roever. Martin Cothran is on the books for another few seasons, so this seemed like a good time to draft one of the more raw, but promising, prospects at the QB position. At only 4% developed, Roever will be holding a clipboard for at least the next few seasons. But his performance at the combine left us intrigued and we're hoping the ability to learn from two established veteran QBs will speed his development.

6.9 (169) - P Wes Hudson. After a well-publicized falling out between longtime punter Rueben Samuels and Camden management due to Samuels' insistance to kick balls into the endzone from midfield instead of towards the sidelines, Camden drafted Wes Hudson to handle the punting duties this season. We're optimistic that his directional kicking abilities represent an improvement from the strong-legged yet imprecise Samuels.

7.8 (200) - WLB Wayne Priest. We came into this draft planning to draft two linebackers and Priest is expected to shore up the weak side run defense while providing some much-needed depth and size on a front seven that got abused throughout last season. Plus, having a Priest around can only help this team.

            • Alright, here's my final draft list. Very happy with how things turned out... hopefully the ratings agree.

1.21 (21) - QB Hunter McGarrahan - McGarrahan was a surprise to see him sitting there at 21 so we made the jump up to the first round to take him. McGarrahan will push UFA rookie sensation Chester Fleeger for playing time right out the box.

3.14 (78) - TE Brant Bakic - Bakic was picked soley because we thought he offered the best value at pick 78. After signing promising TE Dean Chapman and having veteran TE Skip Fitzgerald on the roster, Bakic will fight for a job, but most likely will make the aging Fitzgerald expendable.

3.23 (87) - LG Rod Fisk - Fisk was a need pick at 3.23. He won't start right away, but he'll have time to mature and develop in a backup role before eventually taking over in about three to four years.

4.4 (100) - RT Brad Linquist - Linquist, like Fisk will sit at first, but in three to four years should be a mainstain on the Defenders O-line. Fisk and Linquist really provide solid depth for Pearl Harbor in a position that was very top heavy with little proven depth behind it.

4.13 (109) - FS Jumbo Zereoue - Jumbo (loved the name) will most likely have a battle on his hands to make the team... but if he can play well in preseason and develop nicely, he has a good shot at eventually stealing away playing time from starter Moe Oberheu.

4.22 (118) - SE Bryant Roesler - Lets face it, Roesler sucks as a WR... with that being said, Roesler was drafted for only one reason, and that's to be a force in the return games. Grading out as the best KR/PR in the draft, Roesler will hopefully be the next Desmond Howard. While Roesler doesn't have the game breaking abilities of say a Devin Hester (as noted by his lack of getting downfield or big play ability) he should be a solid yards gainer on an area Pearl Harbor must succeed in to be a competitive team.

5.5 (133) - NT Rufus Valcarcel - Rufus was an interesting pick as I was scratching my head trying to unearth players I hadn't scouted, but were high on their potential. Valcarcel may struggle to make the team, but I think a position switch to DE may be in his future. While a little too big for DE (307), his pass rush skills and technique combined with his lack of run stopping ability make him a classic rush end prototype. LDT Robert Dennison was originally the guy we had targeted as a guy to switch to DE due to his impressive combine and bars, but he was drafted the pick before me in the 4th round.

7.5 (197) - Wilfred McCormick - McCormick was the third RB I was targeting for this spot, but the other two were choosen so McCormick falls nicely into our draft slot. McCormick will be our 3rd down back this year. No doubt about it. He's got great bars at blitz pickup, avoid drops, route running and third down catching. He's also very elusive. I think McCormick will be a big steal, and should be a big time asset to the Defenders right away. McCormick will also help out on coverage units. Solid pick.
              California Kodiaks - GM - 1982-2013
              Brewmaster's Cups: 1987

              , 2000

Are you allowed to label your own pick "solid pick" pre-ratings? I think another owner can... but I'm not sure you can call your own pick out.

                    • Sorry for the delay. I thought my utility was stocked with guys that would still be left in the 7th round - I was wrong ;)

Anyway, I'm glad to take a chance on this running back who I'm a bit surprised lasted until the 7th round.

                        • Outside of Nori or Nelms, any guesses as to who will be the highest rated rookie to your scout in terms of current rating or potential rating? I think the best rookie out of the gates will be CB Ramsey, but potentially, I don't know.

                          • I think the rookie with the biggest impact on the offensive side of the ball this year will be Sedrick Thompson. On the defensive side, Ramsey will definitely be an instant contributer but I would watch out for Al Bradford at SLB as well.

Which isn't really what you asked, but oh well.

I agree on Ramsey. I'm guessing the DE, I think Andrews was his name, will be the best potential outside of the aforementioned.
