As Skydog once said, you can't win the QB sweepstakes if you don't buy a ticket. Roever is woefully underdeveloped, but Cothran is still going strong so he can play the Aaron Rodgers role for a while. His Solesmic and positional scores leave me optimistic about his development, so we'll see.

Well... my draft is over and, as shocking as it might seem, I couldn't have scripted it better in terms of rollout. Now, it may not translate on the field, but I targeted 9 players going into the draft... everyone I drafted was on that original list:
1.10 (10) - LDE Jackie Patrick - Patrick will, most likely, start right away. Motor City is moving back to the 4-3 because we feel it completely undid everything good we were working towards with the drafting of Clyde Olivia and Kent Cook. Olivia took another big ratings bump and should be a force this season, leaving Patrick to control the opposite end. I don't expect big numbers from him, but I love my young defensive trench.
2.9 (41) - SLB Graham Griffith - Griffith will also likely start in the Mechanics return to the 4-3. Lacking a true SLB, "Cracker", as we've decided to refer to him, should slide right in and should benefit immediately from the veteren presence backing him up at LB.
3.8 (72) - LCB Nate Ackerman - Passing on a likely sure thing in Lincoln Ramsey earlier in the draft, we had eyes on Ackerman to slide into the nickel or dime spot straight out of camp. We like his upside and hope to get him into action right away.
4.12 (108) - RB Lester Winslet - Winslet made the MC draft board, at first, simply out of respect for the Owner's alma mater, Eastern Michigan University, but didn't expect to take him, assuming he'd be gone in the first 3 rounds. Our scouts see him as upside rich and think he's a huge value pic at #108.
5.11 (139) - RT Brandon Montes - Everyone loves a project and Montes should provide one. RAW, RAW, RAW... but high potential. Look for Motor City to start stockpiling young OLinemen as they'll start the season with easily the oldest starting 5 in the league. The Great One!
Too many rings to count.

Argh.... I just finished typing this up, but then accidently hit the back button.
1.21 (21) - QB Hunter McGarrahan - McGarrahan was a surprise to see him sitting there at 21 so we made the jump up to the first round to take him. McGarrahan will push UFA rookie sensation Chester Fleeger for playing time right out the box.
3.14 (78) - TE Brant Bakic - Bakic was picked soley because we thought he offered the best value at pick 78. After signing promising TE Dean Chapman and having veteran TE Skip Fitzgerald on the roster, Bakic will fight for a job, but most likely will make the aging Fitzgerald expendable.
3.23 (87) - LG Rod Fisk - Fisk was a need pick at 3.23. He won't start right away, but he'll have time to mature and develop in a backup role before eventually taking over in about three to four years.
4.4 (100) - RT Brad Linquist - Linquist, like Fisk will sit at first, but in three to four years should be a mainstain on the Defenders O-line. Fisk and Linquist really provide solid depth for Pearl Harbor in a position that was very top heavy with little proven depth behind it.
4.13 (109) - FS Jumbo Zereoue - Jumbo (loved the name) will most likely have a battle on his hands to make the team... but if he can play well in preseason and develop nicely, he has a good shot at eventually stealing away playing time from starter Moe Oberheu.
4.22 (118) - SE Bryant Roesler - Lets face it, Roesler sucks as a WR... with that being said, Roesler was drafted for only one reason, and that's to be a force in the return games. Grading out as the best KR/PR in the draft, Roesler will hopefully be the next Desmond Howard. While Roesler doesn't have the game breaking abilities of say a Devin Hester (as noted by his lack of getting downfield or big play ability) he should be a solid yards gainer on an area Pearl Harbor must succeed in to be a competitive team.
5.5 (133) - NT Rufus Valcarcel - Rufus was an interesting pick as I was scratching my head trying to unearth players I hadn't scouted, but were high on their potential. Valcarcel may struggle to make the team, but I think a position switch to DE may be in his future. While a little too big for DE (307), his pass rush skills and technique combined with his lack of run stopping ability make him a classic rush end prototype. LDT Robert Dennison was originally the guy we had targeted as a guy to switch to DE due to his impressive combine and bars, but he was drafted the pick before me in the 4th round.
7.5 (197) - ? - Not sure who I'll take, most likely someone like a RB or WR with a good speed combine. Doubtful to make the team, this guy will have to hope for a huge bump during TC.California Kodiaks - GM - 1982-2013

We're really happy with the draft except for one hiccup.
1.5 - RB Sedrick Thompson - In our eyes, we had four big needs going into the offseason - RB, WR, T, and CB - in that order. FA wasn't really going to help with any of those, although we tried to get our RB fix, and succeeded, in signing Gene Mims. We considered three guys here with this pick, Thompson, WR Frye, and CB Ramsey. Ramsey was never really a thought here for some reason, although we tried to get back up to 1.9 or 10 to get him. We need a CB, but we attribute a ton of our trouble against the pass last year to our running of a 3-4 without proper DE personnel. This year we'll switch back to the 4-3 and allow our pass rushing ends a chance to disrupt the QB a little more and help out our admittedly mediocre CBs. In the meantime, Mims was not a long term answer (or really a short term answer) to the RB position. In choosing to stick with Madison over Nori, we really need to give Madison tons of help around him for him to succeed, which really became the theme of the draft.
1.19 - RT Shane Logan - Big guy, scout liked him, no combine. His size should translate well to LT, where we would like to move him, and although he is grossly undeveloped, he will have a shot to start right away with our crappy tackle core.
1.27 - CB Ray Truchsess - After Ramsey, Truchsess was our second choice of the CB crop. We liked his combine and we think he can step in and possibly start right away - at the very least he will get a lot of time in the nickel.
2.1 - QB Tom Skeen - Really loved his combine and his "bars," which probably mean nothing, and although Madison started all 16 games last year, you never know a) when he will get injured or b) if he is actually the answer for us at QB. If Skeen develops like we hope, we'll have two solid QBs and great value out of this pick.
2.6 - SS Tommy McConnell - We like McConnell to either step in at FS or take time and develop into our starting SS.
2.19 - SE Cory Bobro - We would have loved to take Marcus Melnik here, but after his selection we went with the next WR on our board. Shifty, quick, and decent size made Bobro the pick here.
3.1 - SLB Luther Abrams - I don't know much about Abrams, we didn't scout him, but he was one of the better defensive players available and there's no pressure on him to start right away. Judging by his combine numbers he won't have the strength to be a full time starter, but he could be a defensive spark plug.
3.27 - WR Clyde Hitchcock - We were stupid here. We liked Hitchcock but really wanted to pick DT Gerald Scalliebrealia (sp) who we felt would have been a great value here and a future starter. Work got in the way and when I signed back on to the utility my pick was four minutes past so I talked myself out of the DT and took another WR. Sully took the DT a couple picks later. Still kicking myself. Maybe Hitchcock will end up being the man, but if not, this could have been a dopey pick.
7.1 - Probably take a DT to make us feel warm and fuzzy about missing out earlier or a K.Charlotte Knights - OSFL
Syracuse Slammers - BLB
South America - 1984 WBC Runner Up

STP needs to be auto'd right?
After STP goes, everyone is on auto, until Columbus. They went over the limit on their last pick, so they are to be auto'd as well. Then we will be almost done with round five!Last edited by Pat; 05-14-2008, 12:28 PM.Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
