  • Top Young Guns

When you think about the great quarterbacks of this young league, there are few names that naturally come to mind. But first one might ask, what are the requirements of being a great quarterback. Is it yardage? Is it the ever-popular quarterback rating? Should playoff performance be considered? All of these things should probably be added to the equation, but what we want to do is look to the future. Who is likely to lead their team for years to come?

    5. Desmond Kaplan-Chicago Reapers

-This California Kid was picked in the first round of the 2007 draft, thrown into the fire by Chicago, and left with 3rd degree burns. Throwing for just 6 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2007, Kaplan was sent the OSFL Summer League overseas without any hesitation. Kaplan returned in 2008 with more poise behind center throwing 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 140 fewer attempts. He also raised his completion percentage 7% to just over 59%. This year, Chicago is looking for Kaplan to fully mature as a quarterback, especially since they have to face Dusty Galloway, Myron Allen, and now, Roy Parrish in the NC North.

    4. Edgar Cote-Boston Fighting Irish

-Its pretty tough for a FCS player to make it to the PFL. Its even tougher for said player to be successful in the pros and 2nd year quarterback, Edgar Cote is learning that now. This Jackson State alum led the league in interception in 2008(27). He has had times where he's looked amazing, but more often than not Cote looks to have a propensity towards throwing to the opposite team. To his defense, however, Cote could use more help at the receiver position in Boston.

    3. Myron Allen-North Liberty Enforcers

-Before I continue wring this I'd like to put in a disclaimer. I'm a NLB fan so my view may be a bit skewed. With that said, Allen had better produce this year. He has, arguably, the best young running back in the backfield with him. The front office went out and mortgaged the next three years of the team's future to get Siegrist from Charlotte. This former overall #1 pick has no more excuses, but then again he does have a 103.3 passer rating and has completed 83% of his passes through 2 games.

    2. Rico Whalen-San Francisco Bayhawks

-Another FCS player and #1 overall pick, Rico Whalen is definitely a special young player. Thrown in the fray as a rookie, Whalen responded by leading the Bayhawks to a 10-6 record and a spot in the playoffs. Considered by some to have the most potential as a pure pocket passer, Whalen has not disappointed already throwing for 606 yards in just 2 games in 2009.

    1. Roy Parrish-Dakota Totems

-Since this is the third quarterback highlighted out of the NC North, that usually means that this division must have had some tough times recently. For the Totems, however, the future looks darn bright now. Roy "The Chief" Parrish had scouts, GMs, and team owners everywhere raving about his freakishly raw talent and skill set coming out of "The Swamp." At this point in the season, Parrish is already considered to be better than 75% of the quarterbacks in the league. He's learning the position very quickly and may develop the skills to be the most amazing quarterback of this generatio

Good article. However, I don't know who exactly is considering Roy Parrish better than 75% in the league. Maybe if you're considering the entire depth chart, but he is not in the Top 25% of starters yet. Yet! He's been OK so far, but I don't think I'm ready to call him Top Tier yet.... YET.

Looking at my scout's impression. Got him rated 68 which is better than all but 7 qbs in the league.

Well... scouting numbers... OK. Not sure the value of that. I was looking at two pedestrian passing performances and a handful of rushes that included two fumbles.

My bad... I thought we were talking execution.

All these qbs are 3 years or less. Excluding Whalen none of these qbs have executed. So based on that..yea they all are pretty pedestrian. Billy Joe was excluded because of his six years in the league, he's a vet. Swallow the grapes, Clay....

Trust me, no sour grapes... especially for "BJ the Jiz". He has been pretty average at best, which is far more inexcusable at his experience and size of his paycheck. I simply just misinterpreted the topic. I thought it was young QBs who were starting to bloom, that's why I was surprised to see Parrish.

I understand, believe me. I know you weren't trippin'. Hell, if I wrote the piece based on blooming young qbs then Allen couldn't be on the list and that would defeat the self-serving purpose of writing the article, right?

But honestly, we need convo for this league. Its pretty cool to have a functioning, fictional league but we need to expand the universe a bit. Articles are the best way I see how. So I try my best although, I'm no Clay Shaver.

                  Few are. ;)

No, like I said, it's a great article... and my response was just that... to generate conversation.

Personally, using my blossoming factor.... I like Henry Andrews from Portland. Not only is he playing well... having Slade will make any QB bloom.

                    Edgar Cote sucks.

He had a great game in week 1 and followed it up with one of his worst ever in week 2 (which is saying something). I desperately need to get him some help at WR.

I know that I can speak from personal experience in trying to find one... high level WRs are tough to come by in this league.

Which is why I spent so much to get Siegrist. As a young league(compared to others I'm in) we are all still trying to build heavily through the draft and overpaying free agents. I decided to overpay for a trade...

This is the value of a great receiver. We were down 13-3 in the 3rd and it didn't look good. Those four catches on that drive catapulted us back into the game and eventually for the win, something that would have never happened since I've been GM of NLB(3/4 of the league's existence). I mean when your quarterback can throw a six yard pass into double coverage and the receiver turn it into a 14 yard gain, it makes you pretty damn dangerous. Combine that with Bronson's skills and you finally have a complete offense that can compete in any game as long the defense makes a few stops.
