The Stags are in the evaluating mode for next season.
At QB, Dan Shaw has been replaced. Shaw seems to be a fine number 2 quarterback but is now disgruntled after starting for 2 1/2 seasons. Shaw has taken a beating by being sacked 135 times so far. It is remarkable that he has withstood the onslaught with little more than mild knee trauma that has limited his mobility but not his playing time.
In steps Eddie Strickland a fourth round pick out of Louisana State. Strickland has been more efficient on 3rd down, most likely from his greater mobility. Management will most likely be looking to find a true number 1 QB this off season if possible.
At RB the team is fine. Jack Taylor still has an outside chance for 3 straight 1000 yd seasons. Taylor has good hands out of the backfield, regardless what the scouts may say. Deron Talley is a fine change of pace back. FB is adequate.
At TE, what else can be said. Buddy Offord is emerging as a super star. Staff needs to find a way to get him the ball more often, especially in the redzone. He does everything well. Big things are expected from Offord from now on. At WR, Steve Zukowsky has struggled this year. Not the surest handed receiver but he runs great routes and is often open. The QB's have been shying away from him as of late. He needs a big game to re-establish himself. The fan's love Toby Richard and he is the go to guy. He also has returned a punt for a touchdown in each of his 3 seasons. Rookie Skip Lewis has shown some ball skills in the last few weeks and is pressuring Zukowsky for playing time.
The OL is still a work in progress and the team will not make sufficient strides forward till this becomes a cohesive unit. Four of the five starters were drafted in the past two seasons. There is reason for hope here.
The defense has some solid if not spectactular talent including all world Wally Turner and stadout Steve Stone. The Offense just needs to stay on the field long enough and this unit would quickly step into the upper tier in the league.
