I wouldn't post this if I didn't lose several key pieces of my also ran Bowl team.
It is with bittersweet celebration and gratitude to those players involved that the Utah Golden Spikes announce the retirement of 3 outstanding franchise players.
QB Scott Syron. While earning one ring in the latter years of the Randy Boone era, Syron became a worthy starter for the Spikes eventually breaking the franchise season passing yards record, League yards per carry record among being a leader on and off the field.
FL Dixon Collins - already enjoying a HOF career, Collins was traded to the Spikes from the Port City Steam in a blockbuster deal, the icon continued to shine as part of the Trifecta of Recepta with youngster T. Davis and H. Willmer. Collins retires 2nd all time for Receiving Yards and Receptions.
SS Buddy Hodges - An underrated player on paper, Hodges always found a way to get into the heads of opposing QBs and was the backbone of the Spikes' stingy defense. Always reliable and up to the task, Hodges retires with the Franchise lead in Interceptions (38) and Tackles. He also retires with 2 Tobacco Bowl appearances and a ring.
Also Cary Ellard retired.
