question... lets say someone comes in at 25/40... can they ever have a rating over 40, or is that the top they'll ever reach?

It, on both your players AND coaches, can change. . .up and down!

            1.4 - QB - Edgar Cote (37/67)
I think he'll be exactly what we were hoping for. He'll probably start from day 1 and will give us some consistency at a position where we struggled.

            3.14 - P - Mel Baker (79/84 )
Probably way too high for a punter, but we're still rebuilding our offense so it will help our defense to start the opposing team deep in their territory.

            3.24 - WR - Fernando Craig (20/42)
Seems to be the guy everybody wanted. His initial ratings are somewhat disappointing, but I still think this guy has some real potential

            6.15 - K - Roger Logan (39/58)
My second special teams player selected. He'll be my starting kicker.

            6.23 - TE - Hardy Lyttle (28/44)
Not the guy I wanted, but will only be my 3rd TE.

            7.14 - DE - Rex Samuel (18/45)
Nothing special, but will provide depth at a position we needed some help.

              Riders continued. . .

5.18. RB Hardy Stevenson, 5'8" 214 lbs, Ole Miss. Stevenson was drafted to serve as a contributor to the run game and share time with RB Marc Scovill. Stevenson's numbers sit at 32/45 and is an excellent edge runner. He couples his excellent speed to outside with his strongest area, breakaway speed. Not only is he fast, but he's elusive and outstanding catching the ball out of the backfield. Provides better depth than the former Rider Seth Hamner.

6.17. CB Donnell Acuna, 5'10", 124 lbs, Arizona. Acuna was drafted to help play in the dime and nickel packages. He is a very cerebral rookie and is excellent in run defense, the bump n run, and man coverages and is a very hard hitting back. Will share time on the left side with Mike Tubbs, but will become the eventual starter. Tubbs is a good d back, but is lacking in the bump n run and may be traded. Has modest numbers at 20/42.

7.15. Pick acquired in trade with Washington. LB Kenny Fuller, 6'0", 238 lbs, Oklahoma State. Numbers stand at 17/50. Another smart player with excellent skills in everything but zone coverage. Heir apparent to Ross Fuegel who wasn't resigned.

7.16. FL Bryce Young, 5'10", 199 lbs, TCU. The Horned Frog reminds the staff of a young Eddie McCaffrey. A solid possession receiver who works hard. He will replace Jerald Hogan.

Overview: A definite effort was made to deepen the roster with solid players who should be on the team for a very long time. All the draftees will make the team and play, and are expected to contribute on day one. The draft was geared toward the southwestern player to provide a close identity with its' fan base. Three Arizona Wildcats were drafted, one from Oklahoma, and one from Texas. Management has our eyes on ten free agent rookies who went undrafted, but were interviewed and will be offered contracts for the team.

Solecismic rates our draft a B+, but we think that anytime you can draft players past the fifth round with potential ratings of 45 plus, you've done better than most.

                For the Grizzlies:

2.2- RB Warren Bryant- While BJ Mueller ran for 1300+ yards again last season, his skills have deteriorated rapidly according to my scout, so we went RB with our first pick. Bryant comes in with initial ratings at 50/65, so he'll probably start from day one. Dangerous as a runner and as a receiver, Bryant gives my offense more options and hopefully will get in the endzone more than Mueller managed.

3.5- RT Bart Reid- Will provide depth at the tackle position for us, comes in at ratings of 15/59. We like his potential as an all-around blocker, and should develop into a starter. With two good tackles ahead of him, there's no pressure to be great from day one.

4.4- FS Walt Tucker- Comes in with ratings of 27/69 according to my scout. After losing Earnest Sweeney in free agency (greedy bastard), we needed to pick up another safety to fill the depth chart. Tucker will probably be a backup behind 2nd year man Dwayne Kemp, but with his potential he'll see significant playing time.

5.3- DE Sedrick Warner- Sleeper out of tiny Angelo State (??), Warner will be a backup DE who we hope can provide some pressure off the edge until he develops further. We like his potential both against the run and pass, and think he could be a steal in the 5th round. 24/56.

6.2- CB Brent Salcido- Comes in with ratings of 16/50, so he'll probably be a special teams player in his rookie year. We like his overall ratings however, and think he'll develop into a solid all-around corner in a couple seasons, solid against the run and pass.

7.5- SE Earnest Hill- We needed to get a receiver in the draft and missed out on our top targets at the position. While not a big play guy, we think Hill could provide some key plays on third down and hope he'll be more reliable than our current receiver crop. 18/51

Overall I like my draft, considering I traded away my first round pick during last season's draft (not sure how that's going to work out). Bryant should be a solid contributor from day one, and I like the potential from all of the draftees.

South Maryland with a B+ draft according to the game is also very pleased with the draft. Could have done better if we had pulled some moves and got to some of the diamonds before other guys but overall we got 4-5 starters out of this draft.

1.9 - DT Greer - a step below some of the other DT's but will start from day 1 and improve our already good DL.
2.8 - OG Gilman - not as good as we thought he'd be ratings wise and will likely be moved to center where he'll replace our aging vet there next year.
3.7 - CB Gieb - our best pick in the draft, coming in at 33/62, he's got the skills to improve our secondary drastically.
4.11 - TE Barton - expected better numbers from him too but he should be an excellent run blocker and pass catcher
4.20 - WR Knight - the well was going dry at receiver and this guy will be a role player and might start if he improves quickly
5.10 - QB Boone - we needed a youngster to hold the clip board and figured he could start if forced to someday.
5.19 - K Cochrane - great pick this late will take over kicking duties day 1 and send the incumbent packing
6.9 - WR Ackerman - another stab in the shallow WR pool, see comment above
7.8 - C Elam - a stab in the thinning OL pool here too, was hoping for better but maybe he'll improve post camp

Summary: Greer, Gieb, & Cochrane will start this year, Gilman & Barton probably a year off, the two WR's could either start or be cut depending on camp performance, and Boone & Elam will be career backups.

1(26): SLB Howard Manalang--He had an incredible combine, and I believe that his 31/56 is quite a bit understated. If I'm right on him, he'll terrorize QBs for us.

                      1(29): FS-->CB Wesley Drauch
--He'll be moving to cornerback, and I expect him to be a shutdown corner.

2(26): LT Carlton Donovan--He had a very solid combine, and my scout had him as Underrated. We have a mentor, and I therefore expect him to come along nicely.

3(25): RB Dwight Dawson--Probably a decent backup, but maybe even a starter one day.

4(21): P Lorenzo Roberts--Great bars and my scout had him Very Underrated. If all is correct, he'll be one of the league's best punters.

5(29): NT Xavier Timmons--He's a light DT, so he could end up at another position. Not sure about him.

All in all, I feel very good about this draft.

Looking in game, it seems my team ended up with a B- for the draft... for not having anytime to scout and making all the picks with little to no knowledge of the league or my team, I've got to say I'm pretty happy with how things turned out.

LMAO --- I'm graded as B+ for the draft but only have 1 player over 50 potential ******Anyone else draft that bad?????************

--- my first round pick CB Stuart who is 63/65 and who wasn't even a need (although I do think you need 3 very good CBs to make the Dime effective (not really an educated guess -- maybe a rationalization after I drafted him... )

                            Results going into week 1:

                            1.6 LCB Leo Duffy - 72/77

                            2.6 QB Henry Andrews - 23/57

                            3.6 FS Bennie Farley - 38/62

                            3.29 DT Nolan Hinsley - 24/55

                            4.6 RB Craig Price - 45/57

                            5.6 RDE Ben McPherson - 21/43

                            6.6 C Graham Weaver - 21/50

                            6.18 LG Jeremy Wing 24/40

They gave me a "B". Seems a bit low to me.

While I don't have my game in front of me so I can't really look at how the guys progressed when they came into the league, I'll try and give a little write up on every guy...

                                1. 2.22 LDT- Jose Booker (6-0/297)- Jose has done great for me in the preseason. He had the best training camp by far out of any players on my team as he jumped 3 rating points. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but if you're on the Pearl Harbor it's a ton...

Jose is my starting Left Defensive tackle and hopefully will continue to play a big part in my defense.

2.2.29 LG- Mitchell Lengel (6-3/294) - Mitchell from what I remember didn't really progress much this preseason. With time he should be a decent starting guard, but for now he's our back up left guard.

                                Currently backup LG

3.3.5 RDE- Norm Wilkerson (6-2/272) - Norm played fairly well in limited action this pre-season. He's not much of a run stopper, but he's already my rush end in the dime package. I think with time he'll be a much more well rounded player.

                                Currently my backup RE.

4.3.27 RDT- Earl Scholl (6-2/288) - Earl unfortunately hasn't seen any playing time this preseason... Currently on the inactive list, he'll stay there until I see some progress in his ratings.

5.4.5 QB- Walter Whiting (6-2/214) - Walter had a good preseason, but his ratings never developed.... he started out as a 8/39 and he's still there... I think eventually with time he'll be a good backup QB.

Currently he is inactive as my 4th QB.

6.4.22 RG- Ted Parker (6-0/298) - Ted was a massive dissappoint... his ratings were awful and I don't think he lasted more than a week or two with the team. We cut him and cut our losses. Biggest misread by me so far in the draft.

                                Currently.... who cares.

7.4.26 MLB- Chuck Poock (6-1/243) - Chuck has played well so far this preseason and has earned his spot as the backup MLB for the team. He's been solid in his ratings, and I think with time he'll continue to improve into a solid started in the OSFL.

                                Currently backup MLB.

8.4.27 WR- Neal Akins (5-11/190) - Neal hasn't shown much yet at WR, but he made the team in another way as a KR/PR. He'll share those duties with John Crabb a recently signed FA.

                                Currently KR/PR, 5th wideout.

9.5.4 WR- B.J. Gomes (6-1/210) - Don't really remember much about B.J. other than he was slow, and didn't look like he'd make much progress. So we cut him. Anoter misread on my part... but seeing as I had never played FOF before and was thrown into the draft blind I'll accept a few mistakes along the way.

Currently... a free agent I guess?

10.5.7 WR- Nathan Turner (6-3/213) - Nathan looks to be more of a project, but if he develops, will become a useful player down the line.

                                Currently inactive 6th WR.

11.6.11 WLB- Scott Dodge (5-9/225) - Scott while undersized came into his own this preseason and has won the backup WLB spot. On gamedays he's inactive, but if the starter ever goes down Dodge will step in and be the starter.

                                Currently inactive backup WLB.

12.6.28 RB- Duane Wallace (5-11/214) - Duane was a long shot from the moment I drafted him. He had tons of bars with no gray in them... but I did see a few things I liked so I took a chance. Coming into camp he was a 8/13.... Cut him on the spot.

                                Currently bagging groceries.

13.7.10 LCB- Emmitt Gilmore (6-2/214) - Emmitt was a guy I was high on this late in the draft... unfortunately he wasn't what I thought I was going to get, so I had to cut him. Maybe I'll give him a look if we have any injuries at the position.

                                Currently a free agent.

14.7.27 SS- Brant Clark (6-0/204) - Brant was someone I was very excited to see drop to me in the 7th. I switched his position from SS to RCB in camp and he has responded well. Currently he's my 5th CB but with an injury to my starter at RCB he's moved into the dime CB.

                                Currently starting Dime CB.

Well there you have it. A little rough, but given the circumstances I was under, not too bad. Thankfully since then I've done a lot of reading, mainly Skydog's stuff on FOFC and I think I've learned a lot. Can't wait till next year to put the things I've learned into practice.

I was given a B- by FOF for this draft, but looking back, it probably was a C to a C-.
