  • OSFL Injury Setting

I think it is time to reduce the injury setting in our league. This is getting crazy:

    OSFL Injury Report

Three teams have 9 injured players and One team has 12. I think we should considering reducing the setting from 100 to 75.

I am easy to get along with and what ever is decided I am cool with. However if changed I think it should be after playoffs are done. Just my losing 2 cents lmao. Injury wise we have been lucky this year only few minor injurys

Instead of fighting injury settings in leagues, I've increased my time in Training Camp to include more injury prevention. Seems to help.

Starting next season is what would be most fair.

I'd be 100% against. Without looking, I'd bet there are a similar number of teams on the other end of the spectrum.

A big part of football is depth. It's unfortunate but these things happen in the real game as well.

Baltimore Bulldogs - BLB since '84
            - Porter Champs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12
            - Playoffs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '99, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12, '13, '14, '15, '16
            - Brewmaster's Cup: '01

The problem is there is no depth in this game. There is no practice squad, waiver wire, or true expanded rosters during preseason. Depth is a 30/30 scrub you have to sign from FA to replace a guy who sometimes you're forced to IR because you will get HALd if you don't.

                I hear you Matt.

But I don't think lowering the injury setting is a solution, especially in a game that has so many vets that clearly have a huge advantage in experience over the newer GMs.

I see injuries as an equalizer.

I see what your saying on equalizer and does not play favorites it might hit a old star end his career or it could hit a rookie ruin his career. It is one thing that could make a beautiful draft go bad. Or destroy a dynasty someone has built if serious injuries.

I only had 2 major injuries this year
plus NFL had a stat that every team lost 3 players per game last season
i'm guessing the game engine tried to replicate that-maybe 90% I would be fine with

The setting is fine as it is. If we changed it to a lower setting such as 75, it won't stop teams getting bad injuries. Strength coaches and training camp time may help but it mostly comes down to dice rolls.

I'll play whatever it is, but I don't think it needs to be lowered. A lot of the injuries are bumps and bruises which can be expected in football. Others are colds and flus. I'd say the serious injuries are about right. As others have said sign a good strength trainer, train extra in camp, and submit field repair requests.

                        Just my $.02.

I like it at 100 just because that's an easy, standard, uncontroversial number.

I would enjoy the benefits of lowering injuries to make things easier mechanism-wise. But I agree with Delandis that injuries are important in equalizing. The FA pool is quite deep, too -- these 30-35 guys are often developed veterans with a lot of games under their belts.

With a 25% reduction, I'd also worry about compounding effects. Too many players who should have their careers cut down early make it unscathed. I think the unbalancing effects would outweigh the ease of gameplay benefits. Some of these annoyances are baked in; even at 75% if you don't have an active center, it won't matter how many guards and tackles you have. That's dumb, but it's built in.

                            My 2 cents

If the injury setting has been at 100 since the leagues inception, shouldn't really be changed. Just a bad luck year for injuries i guess, my team included.

I'm in the boat that thinks injuries are fine as is. They're nowhere near as bad as real life injuries are, so I don't think the 53 man roster size with no practice squad is affected by the current rate of injuries. Part of the good luck and bad luck in football, to go along with weather and officiating. Sometimes you get to see that stud player play a full career with minimal nicks and scrapes, sometimes he is playing the best football of his career and then suffers a career altering injury and you're left wondering what could have been. Those stories and the speculation about alternate timelines that will never exist are part of the intrigue of football to me.

I'll always wonder what would have happened if Greg Cook didn't ruin his throwing shoulder in his rookie season, or if Ki-Jana Carter was as good as he looked like he would be in college.
