cap cost help

So if I go to the trade screen and add a player from another team, the displayed cap cost of the trade is about half of his salary. Is that screen 100% accurate?

I am asking because I am up against the cap and that makes dealing harder.

It should take into effect that you will only be on the hook for a pro-rated amount of the player's salary (i.e, however many of the 17 weeks are left), as well as the fact that only the Top 51 players count vs the cap.

The game doesn't handle the in season proration perfectly either, although I think that only happens during renegotiations.

Well my trade went through but then the AI must have calculated me as over the cap. DE Herrington was AI released.

I am still showing as over the cap even though the trade screen showed I would still have like 8 million left in cap space.

Herrington was a decent DE, we will miss him... But I picked two rookies in this past draft who are similar. They are still developing so I wanted to keep Herrington on... But hopefully getting the CB here was worth it.

Anyhow, lesson learned.

Heh... I saw that guy get released and thought "Man, Chuck must have a deep roster at DL."
