  • OSFL hiatus in effect following championship game

    All,

Just to let everyone know, the OSFL will be taking a little break once this regular season ends tomorrow night. On one hand, I've been too busy at work these past few weeks to coordinate our offseason plans and I'll need a little time to do that. Secondly, we have at least two owner vacancies to fill and I'll need some time to fill those. As usual, if anyone knows of anyone who wants to get involved, let me know. I'm not posting the teams right now because I don't want them to be called out, but right now there are at least two, both of whom won at least 6 games last year and one of whom is actually very good.

Thirdly, cam is on vacation until 9/5 and I'd like to give him a chance to manage his own offseason without Diesel, his appointed fill-in, screwing it up for him as badly as he's screwed up his own team. Fourthly....I've been running up against some serious time issues as far as devotion to this league goes lately. Some of you have probably noticed the relatively bare-bones nature of my posts lately and honestly, I have time to run sims these days and not a lot else due to a heavy workload and a life outside of work. So I'm extending the invitation to anyone interested who thinks they could put more into the league than I currently do - I will give you whatever you need if you want to take over the league from a commissioner's standpoint. I don't want to feel like I'm shortchanging people on content around here, but at the same time I personally am not in a position to devote a lot of my time to the league these days.

I'm happy to continue running sims, posting results, keeping everyone on schedule, conducting the offseason and all that jazz, but I've seen what some other leagues do as far as content and bells and whistles and it makes our little OSFL look rather spartan by comparison. Which may be fine with everyone. But if it's not, or if anyone wants to shoulder the added responsibility of running the league and providing more in the way of content, let me know. This could include some kind of co-commish role instead of a complete transfer or power, so let me know if anyone's interested in that as well. Due to the lack of interest in things like writing articles, choosing awards, betting on league games, etc, I've measured the activity levels of most of you to be pretty low. But if more is desired, I'm gonna need some help in the way of running things, as well as the amount of content that you all submit on your own.

Anyway. Not sure how long the hiatus is, but it'll be at least through the coming week as I track down some new owners and get the offseason plans squared away. Apologies for the delay as I know those who didn't make the playoffs are anxious to crank up another offseason, but hopefully everyone is understanding.

Also, if you are planning to leave, please let me know. So far I've heard from two people and I appreciate their courtesy in giving me the notice prior to the start of the offseason, so hopefully others will do the same if they plan on leaving.

Well I guess that means I can wait for solescemic to get back to me about the extra license then, and I won't have to buy a new one. Any idea about the length of this hiatus, skerik?

I'm happy with the job Skerik's done as commissioner but I'm willing to help out and or take over if needed. Now that my job situation is more stable, I have more free time and I can step in. Let me know.

              A few comments:

First, I'm not "back" yet so don't scramble over to the BLB boards diesel.

As a fellow commish I completely understand the need to take a break. Sometimes the whole process can really burn you out, especially during busy times like the offseason. Personally, I'd like to see Skerik stay on as commish. You've done an incredible job communicating and sticking to the sim schedule which is IMO, the most important thing for a commish to do.

As far as content, I think it's too much to expect the commish to carry the workload. If we want the content, features, etc of other leagues its on the owners to contribute. It might help to have a co-commish who takes the lead in this area and frees up Skerik to just focus on simming, etc. The writing shouldn't all come from one person, but if there is a semi-regular feature it would at least get the ball rolling. In my experience, people are more likely to contribute if they see new content posted on a regular basis. I also think there isn't really a need for the tedious work that tends to get forgotten like weekly awards writeups, etc. It's a lot of work for very little benefit.

As far as bells and whistles, I'm currently working on an upgrade to the site that I expect to have up and running by the end of September. Skerik and Sully have seen portions of it and I think it's progressing nicely. It's going to be a work in progress since I basically have to re-write everything from scratch, but the benefits will be huge once it's complete. If any of the FOF vets here have experience with gstelmack's utilites I could probably use some help.

I'll be back full-time a week from today and will really get the ball rolling on the new site.

Sorry all, but at least for this next season, I just won't be able to give the team and the league the attention it needs and deserves.

I am hoping that eventually I will be able to get back in the queue for a new (expansion?) team or perhaps to take over a team later on.

Well, I'm not sure if FOF supports expansion. I know Skerik wanted to start a smaller league, but the game only allows for a full 32 team league. However, I'm sure we'll be going through this again next offseason.

Ok, now who's going to take the PhantomLord route? My bet is on Wayne! ;)

oh, yeah...I forgot that you're all douche bags or something like that and you you all stink and you're dummies and stuff like that.

(I'm so just kidding, in case anyone misunderstands my PL-isms)

Nothing against the league. I was just overcommited and had to downsize the leagues that I am involved with. I just moved into a new house and feeling drained on time.

So are we waiting for all positions to be filled before continuing?

                              I hope so.

Also, not to nag or cross post, but it would be nice to have the end of season file so that we may examine our team needs during this off time.
