Yes, thanks for this post. The last I heard Jim was debating on whether or not he'd be continuing the FOF franchise, though I could be mistaken about that. Reading this post makes it seem like he will. That's exciting news to me.
The last I heard Jim was debating on whether or not he'd be continuing the FOF franchise, though I could be mistaken about that.
Back this spring he strongly indicated (in all of the interface discussion at FOFC) that he was well into the next version's design, if not the actual coding.
Also, one important thing to note about Jim, if you're not familiar with his way of doing things: for 17+ years now, he has very frequently (if not always) talked about future game stuff with the added caveat of "I'll do so-and-so if there's ever another FOF." He is very much against pre-release hype, to the point that with FOF2K7, he waited ~24 hours before release to announce that there would even BE an FOF2K7.* Point being, what you may have heard was someone misinterpreting "if there's ever another FOF" as meaning "I'm thinking of quitting," rather than "this is my standard b.s. disclaimer so that no one can say that I promised another game." ;)
I bought FOF1 back in 1998 and have interacted with Jim for 17+ years since then, and one thing that is abundantly clear to me is this: until he says "I'm done. There will never be another FOF," I will always assume that there will be another FOF until he dies. ;)
*--To be 100% clear on this, it went down like this:
THURSDAY: "I'm happy to announce FOF2K7. These are the new features. You can download the demo now. It will be released tomorrow."
FRIDAY: "FOF2K7 has been released. You can download the full game now."
