  • QB's

Just so everyone knows as of right now I am actually happy with my pick of Mandel. I had to have a QB and I feel he will actually have a good career, depending on who is around him. When you look at some of the NFL Greats some never did win a SB Marino, & Kelly are 2 I think of right away. Real shame for Kelly as they had both good offense and defense. Then you take Mannings Eli has 2 SB wins could get a 3rd or 4th. Payton only has 1 and honestly I don't ever see him getting a second. Montana had he been playing for Dolphins he most likely would of never gotten a SB win and Marino been with the 49ers and Jerry Rice he might to this day be called the greatest QB of all time.

I feel the QB is the face of the team, the one that is remembered as the winner or loser. However he in my eyes is only a member of the team an import member but so is the RB's like Emmitt Smith, and Terrell Davis. WR's Like Jerry Rice & Lynn Swan. Then the OL's who made the holes protected the QB. Then last of all and to me is the DEFENSE. I personally feel it is the D that wins and loses the game. I remember the 49er - Dolphin game. There was a interview being done and someone asked the 49ers how could they beat Marino & company, Well if I remember right Ronnie Lott said how can they beat us if they can't score against us? When that was said I started taking bets I won $300 that year with friends. It was Also the Def that I feel that won the game for the 49ers against the Bengals & Rams over Titans.

So to me I feel any good QB like Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, & Eli Manning can win the big one more than once. Especially with good solid men behind them.

I don't see Mandel being a Marino, Kelly, Payton Manning, or Brady. I do think he could be a El Manning or Joe Flacco though.

I compared him to NFL players as I don't know the past OSFL QB's Also wrote this article as I was bored and posting action was dead yesterday. Here have a Michelob & popcorn

Oh and then there is players like Matt Ryan who I really like as a good QB, f they get the right players around him I think he also could win 2 titles maybe 3. They have gotten close and I still think they are close.

Matt Ryan is an elite Game Manager.

Take away his toys and I don't think he's all that good.

Still sounds like you're trying to convince yourself. ;)

He's a mismatch at 1.1, but no one wanted to trade up, so you took him. That was the right move.

He did pretty well in 2013 despite the fact that Atlanta's o-line was god awful that year. I think it's unfair to just call him a game manager.

ELITE game manager. I mean the elite bit. He's about as good as you can ask for without being able to take the top off of the defense.

I consider that a game manager. Get the ball in your player's hands, don't turn it over.

Yes, I'm damning with faint praise a bit but it's mostly due to Matty Ice's inability to win in the playoffs.

Maybe I've just been watching the Jets too long, but when I think "elite game manager" I basically think of Chad Pennington. I'd take Ryan over Pennington any day. :)

Poor Chadwick would break every bone in his body behind that Atlanta o-line in 2013.

Game Manager has reached an interesting new level in the current NFL. I think we're about to see Drew Brees turned into a game manager and Alex Smith will only ever be a game manager (not to mention Bradford).

I'd no doubt take Ryan over Pennington. The stars had to align for him to play as well as he did.

Hell, I'd be hard pressed to take Flacco over Ryan. Flacco is, believe it or not, a top 10 QB right now, as is Ryan. I simply like Flacco's ability to do more things. I fear that in a few years Ryan's arm will wear a bit and he won't be as effective.

Football Outsiders is very high on Ryan and since they look at each and every play that gives me a good feeling, but I just don't love the kid.

Edit: Jets fan have skewed perspectives on QBs, since everyone looks better than the trash they've had.

haha that last bit is definitely true. :) Alex Smith is definitely what I would consider "elite game manager." I actually feel like Ryan can be a bit of a gunslinger at times. He's definitely not a top 5 QB, but he is, as you note, a top 10 QB that can carry the team at times when he needs to. The same with Flacco.

There just don't seem to be as many decent QBs to go around as there used to be. Is it all those wacky spread college offenses making it hard for QBs to adjust to the NFL? I guess time will tell!

This kinda sounds like Mr Choke in playoffs Romo. I always dread seeing Romo come playoffs or week 17 and a win gets you in playoffs.

Romo gets a bum rap. He's not a perfect QB by any means and is sort of a poor man's Brett Favre, but he's pretty good QB.

That said he does make some awful decisions sometimes, often after nearly 4 quarters of scintillating football.

I think Jerry has a bad philosophy for football. With their OLine, the Cowboys stand to create another dynasty provided they draft right.

Romo showed good skills when not under constant pressure.

Thankfully it seems like there's some people that can overrule Jerry now in Dallas. If there wasn't those poor sods might have been saddled with Johnny Rehab instead of Zach Martin.

I dunno if anyone remembers, but just prior to Romo taking over for Bledsoe, there was a lot of, "This is the worst OL in football." talk. And it was due to the statue that is Bledsoe. Romo came in, and almost instantly people were talking about how good that same unit was. Romo made that line better with his feet and/or how he could read and adjust protections. You can have the best OL of all time, but if they're in the wrong protection, the QB is dead.
