  • Rider Rookies hit the roster

Just a quick look at the Riders Rookies and how they hit the rosters. . .still a ways to go, training camp, preseason, reg season, but let's see how they landed. . .

1st Round: RG R Browning 31/48 Nice. . .not flashy, but good
2nd Round: LG B Terrel 20/48 Again nice, not flashy, but good
4th Round: RDT Max Mills 22/47 I sense a theme here
4th Round: MLB Jeff McIntyre: 9/23 Hard to read draftee, not signing
5th Round: Fl W. Okenuvich: 20/35 not bad. . .great hands and speed
6th Round: FB Lamar Rodgers : 18/44 good pickup in the sixth
7th Round: FL Tyrrell Wallace: 17/51 BOOM!

That's what I like to draft. . .consistent contributors. Six of the seven will make the rosters, five of the six will start. . .

    A look at the West:

    1. Denver. . . their draftees are damn good and the Grizzlies helped themselves a lot

    2. Utah. . . any Cotton led team will always draft intelligently . . .this one is no different

    3. Phoenix. . . consistently good, not flashy. . . solid draft

    4. Los Alamos. . .picks land on roster and disappoint. . .

The only reason you got Wallace is because I picked the wrong guy. I had decided on him but when I picked, I totally forgot about it and chose the other receiver...lol

If someone has time, they should go through and show everyone's draft...granted it's based off that scout, but gives everyone an idea.

          1st - Marcus Schroeder, CB - 57/67
          2nd - Emmanuel Ricks, DT - 38/54
          6th - Clifton Major, DE - 18/50
          6th - Bob Holden, CB - 18/48
          7th - Monty Geiger, QB - 14/47

Looks like I got great value in the 6th and 7th, but I realize it means nothing at this point until I see how these guys perform in camp. Right now, I'm happy. Check back in the preseason.

Word around the OSFL is that Geiger has really been bulking up during the offseason.

There is a thin margin of error in the draft. . .you erred, I reaped the benefits!

To think I needed to upgrade my receiving corps and did well in the later rounds. . .it's a very satisfying feeling to address your linemen first, and find the hidden gems later!

You know, I drafted a starting DE in the seventh round during the DFL draft and he boomed the same way. . . I guess interviewing the bottom feeders has paid off!

Isn't it a little early to be patting ourselves on the back?

This may be the only chance some have before the true nature of their poor drafts is revealed. :)

My guys all graded out at 80/80 according to my scouts.

I've done enough of these drafts to know that the way my rookies landed on the roster, I'm more than content. I've always drafted for depth, a roster filled with good players will outlast a roster filled with the great player and poor to average backups. Injuries happen, and I'd rather have a good backup step in than a poor one.

Acid and Sully look to have had a good draft as well. We are drafting on potential now!

I disagree with your assessment of my draft.

While I'm not overjoyed regarding any of my selections 'as is'. I'm content that I've added depth at several positions (all improvements over the incumbant) and fully expect every single one of my players to 'grade out' better after camp.

                          Mark my words.....mark my words.

It's only an assessment of how they hit the rosters, according to my scout. You are right, there will be some changes after training camp and then there will be changes during/after preseason should you play them, and there will be changes during the season.

Geez, I started talking about how my scout sees the way they landed, and it's become a point of contention. :?
