  • Gainesville uses the #25 pick to roll the dice on Wideout Scottie Smith from Tenn-Martin. Here's a guy that going in I saw could go as late as the third round, although he has some first round ability. Smith is your classic boom or bust pick. He does bring a lot to the table. Possessing impressive strength and intangibles Smith had excellent hands, runs great routes, and responds in big game situations. He'll make the tough catch for you as he's able to out physical smaller DB's.

What I saw on film at times was his inability to deal with double coverage and a propensity to disappear in late game situations if he wasn't involved early. He needs to understand with his ability even if he's not getting the ball he's an excellent downfield blocker that needs to play a team game. At this level he'll be asked to give it his all. With his raw talent, he's a project that could pay big dividends.

        • At #26 the run on wideouts continues with the selection of Virginia Tech hero Rob Freysinger. The former Hokie displayed a head for the game and tremendous agility during his career. His small size didn't stop him from making plays downfield on Saturdays in the ACC.

At times Freysinger had problems dealing with press coverage and would come up short in key passing situations. He also had a harder time dealing with physical DB's, and even developed a fumbling problem at the end of last season. I think with the proper physical conditioning program and a good camp he can begin to build a solid career in the OSFL.

Thanks guys, almost caught up. I won't be able to profile every pick after the second round but I'll try to have Mel highlight some key picks.

            • With the 27th pick in the draft Charlotte drafts former Ohio State Buckeye Wayne Harden. Harden does not have ideal speed for the position, but he more than makes up for it by being the most physical corner in this draft. Harden is an expert at wearing his man down during the course of a game and basically beating him into submission. He has a knack for making big plays, and is not afraid to lay a lick on an opponent whether it be a receiver, tight end, or even a fullback.

He does have trouble against smaller, more agile receivers one on one. Receivers able to avoid his physical style can cause him problems. Wideout Benjamin Lincoln caused him head aches in Columbus torching Harden for almost 200 yards receiving last October. If he can improve his technique, and I believe he will Harden will be a guy that no wideout wants to lineup against come Sunday.
